5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest Hits T.K O, May 13, 2004

This is one of the very best greatest hits albums ever. I really just got into Teddy P. two years ago when I heard "Turn off The Lights" on an almost daily basis on the local old school R&B station here in Atlanta. It was like the song was following me around. So, I bought this album for that song alone and hoped there might be something else on here that I would like. Every day another song from here would start sticking in my head, until finally I was in love with the whole album. I can't believe I never got into Teddy before, or that I never realised he was the lead singer of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. I've heard that he is touring again despite being in a wheelchair from a crippling car accident back in the early 80's and that his magical voice is as powerful as ever. I definately want to see this legend in concert and hear these classic songs live. Guys like Keith Sweat had to whine and beg the ladies for some lovin', but not Teddy P. He demanded to be rubbed down in some burning hot oils, baby, and he would do the same for you. Now turn off the damn lights and let's get it on!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best, November 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Teddy Pendergrass - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I've heard so many great singers in my time (I'm 35) and if I were to list my top ten best singers of all time, Teddy would be up there with the best. This guy is one of the few men that could get away with singing love songs without looking silly! :-) "Come Go With Me", "Close The Door", "Love TKO", and "Can't We Try", to me, are 4 of the best love songs ever created! Even if I were to only get these four songs in this album, I'd be satisfied. It's really worth it.

This is an amazing compilation of the best of Teddy's many popular hits. The remastering and remixing adds depth to his always soulful and melodic voice. This CD captures the sexiness and excitement that was Teddy Pendergrass before he was so sadly injured back in the 80's and stopped performing as he was entering the threshhold of superstardom. Truly a great representation of the essence of Teddy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Teddy for beginners, July 25, 1999

Teddy Pendergrass is the last great soul man. If Luther Vandross is too smooth for you, and today's soul singers too retro, then that description seems apt. Coming on the heels of Otis Redding and Al Green, Teddy's solo career started strong and remained steady until his auto accident. His Elektra years aren't as strong (and are only represented by 2 tracks, here)but the Philly solo days were full of classics. This is Teddy P. for beginners. But don't miss his albums: start with TP and Life Is A Song Worth Singing.

This cd is absolutely awesome. All of the greatest tracks from the greatest singer of all times. Teddy Pendergrass has the voice of velvet, truly truly strong, sexy and mellow all wrapped into one. You get it all in this beautiful cd. I love the man, he was at his best in the 70's and is still going strong today with these songs. You get all of the hits on this and superbly done by the only man that can do it. Teddy, Teddy, Teddy, Teddy.
Purchase the cd and witness the magic, oh so awesome.

4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful package from a TRUE talent!, November 12, 2005

This review is from: Teddy Pendergrass - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
At 37 I'm old enough to remember all of Teddy's solo work when it was first released and being played on local R&B radio. My moms bought the albums, 45s or 8 tracks and we enjoyed the music. Now that I'm older and have listened to lots and lots of "performers" with no real vocal talent, I've truly come to appreciate a genuine talent whose passion is truly felt in his music. That's almost non-existent today.

I like all the songs. This is a good collection. However being a close follower of Teddy for decades, if I were building the collection and were limited to only one CD I would have omitted the following: "Life is a Song", "The More I Get", "Shout and Scream" & "Can We Try", and instead included: "Hold Me", "Love is The Power", "It Don't Hurt Now" & "My Latest, My Greatest Inspiration". I think that would be the ultimate, single CD Teddy Collection.

Overall this CD is well worth the money; far from disappointing. But I believe that many long time Teddy fans would make the same substitutions I suggested.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5+ Stars!, June 1, 2004

Teddy Pendergrass is great. He's got such a great, silky smooth baritone voice. I think more younger,up and coming recording artist should listen to the mastery that this man accomplishes in every single song that he sings. He has such a unique style that I haven't necessarily heard today's new R&B/ Soul male artists pick up on. Best songs include "Turn Off The Lights", "Close The Door", "Love TKO", "Can't We Try", "Joy", and all the rest of the songs on the CD! 5/5 stars and more stars if I could give more!

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic must have for the love ballad collection, July 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Teddy Pendergrass - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Teddy is one of the greatest singers of R&B love songs that I've ever heard. If you're trying to get in the mood for love, or put someone in the mood, Teddy has the grooves to do it. It'll have every man saying to his lady "Come Go With Me","Close the Door" and "Turn of the Lights" because it's going to be another "Love T.K.O."

There is nothing better than Teddy in the morning. Wait maybe Teddy in the afternoon. But then again there is Teddy at night. This album is not for the faint of heart. You may pass out several times from an o.d. of passion and soul. BUY IT!

This review is from: Teddy Pendergrass - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Teddy Perndergrass's Greatest Hits is a good way to experience Teddy's music for the first time, like I did. It includes several of the highlights of his career like "Love TKO," "When Somebody Loves You Back", "Joy" and many others. I recommend this to anybody just getting into oldschool soul and funk, or into Teddy himself. Teddy has a gruff, but romantic voice, and has a great vocal delivery skill. The beats are clean too.
