3.0 out of 5 stars useful but flawed, November 23, 2006

This review is from: Teen Guide to the Bible (Paperback)
Fr.McBride does a good job of writing a very readable overview of the Bible. To read through his book will give you a good jump start before you read through the actual text of Scripture and also give you some useful background. There some problems however.I've always regarded Fr.McBride as orthodox but unfortunately there are traces of modernist scholarship in this book.He seems to undermine the Mosaic authorship of the Pentateuch as well as the historical accuracy of some parts of the Old Testament.I can't say that he contradicts the Faith but on certain points I think he departs from tradition a little too much.I also think he should have explained the Church's teaching on Christ's human knowledge a little better instead of just saying Jesus "didn't know" the last day of the world. To me,especially nowadays, anyone who writes about the Catholic Faith should emphasize that Christ is truly God and truly man. That He has a human intellect and a divine intellect. But always keeping in mind that "He" ultimately knows all things past, present, and future because He is God.Since Vatican II serious errors have been taught in this area. They are widespread and need to be corrected in a clear way.

This review is from: Teen Guide to the Bible (Paperback)
The writing is simple but profound. Anyone who reads it should have a better understanding of scriptures and consequently a deeper understanding of God and Jesus Christ. This book helps to strenghten one's relationship with Christ.
