Book Description

A real-world guide to parenting a sexually active child that gives frank, expert advice on how to parent, rather than punish, your child into smart, safe, sensible choices

My Teen Has Had Sex, Now What Do I Do? gives parents unvarnished advice on how to deal with the myriad of parenting issues and concerns having a sexually active teen entails, including health risks such as STD’s and pregnancy, disciplinary and boundary issues, heightened emotional vulnerability, and sexual peer pressure.  Sample dialogues and scenarios help parents deal with common situations such as setting boundaries around sexual activity in the house, what to do if your child’s partner is of legal age, and what your (and your child’s) legal rights are around getting birth control and medical information.  Parents also get advice on what signs to look for and what actions to take if their child is engaging in risky sexual behavior, including multiple partners or submitting to sexual pressure from peers or online.  Most importantly, parents learn how to coach their children to be responsible, savvy, and accountable for their sexual decisions.

4.0 out of 5 stars The real story, March 14, 2009

This review is from: My Teen Has Had Sex, Now What Do I Do?: How to Help Teens Make Safe, Sensible, Self-Reliant Choices When They've Already Said "Yes" (Paperback)
The book is a clear wake up call for parents, and helps one to understand what is really going on in the teen world. It uses that insight to truly help a parent to better communicate with their teen in a useful, direct way - from specific facts to model conversations. It helps provide clear, medically correct information as well as ways to present it to a teenager. It is the type of support most parents could use when faced with the terrifying idea of their teen being sexually active. The organization of the book also makes it easy to access the information you want and need at any given moment.

ALSO, it a great book for parents of kids who are not yet sexually active. If you can instill your values at an earlier age and have a clear guide as to how to start or continue conversations with pre-teens, you may help them to be better prepared for when these issues hit. And they will hit. You don't need to wait until there is trouble to tackle this issue!!

Overall, a guide more parents should have so they can face these issue head on and feel prepared and knowledgeable as they navigate the challenges of transition into the adult world with their children.

This review is from: My Teen Has Had Sex, Now What Do I Do?: How to Help Teens Make Safe, Sensible, Self-Reliant Choices When They've Already Said "Yes" (Paperback)
This is a really easy and informative read about sexually active teens and the culture of myth of "just say No!". This has practical advice on how to help your teen make better decisions and handle the situations. I like the real life scenarios too.
