Gr. 7-12. Although the steep price may consign this to the reference shelf, don't forget about it. It's a storehouse of valuable information. Hempelman, an attorney in private practice, has done her homework--not only in researching the legal issues, but also in targeting concerns of prime interest to YAs--and her voice can be heard throughout the book in lucid explanations and commentary. Topical chapters, covering everything from emancipation and students' rights to matters of sexual privacy, personal appearance, and treatment in juvenile court, are presented in question-answer form, with a minimum of legal jargon. There's an excellent glossary, and Hempelman provides a helpful selection of further readings (newer material is available on many of the topics, but the books listed will start readers out in the right direction). that someone wrote an outstanding book that helps both teenagers and parents deal with the law. This has been a great aid in parenting because now I have something to back me up that is simple, easy to read and understand.

I have read the bood teen legal rights and it has helped me alot. I definatley feel that there should be more books like that out there. The book answered most if not all of my questions concerning my school and the laws that are relavent. She is a great person for writing such a book and I recommed it to anyone who is confused on what there rights really are.
