Book Description

October 1, 2000 11 and up6 and upTeen Love

This second volume in Kimberly Kirberger's bestselling Teen Love series offers teens a look at friendship from the perspective of their peers. Teens candidly touch on all aspects of friendship--from making and keeping friends to losing friends and growing apart, from learning to be a friend to themselves to discovering that their feelings for a special friend have grown into a deeper form of love.

Because friendships are of paramount importance to teens-and because Kirberger combines life lessons for teens from teens with her own unique brand of compassion and nonjudgmental wisdom-this book is sure to be as much of a hit with readers as Teen Love : On Relationships. In anticipation of the success of On Friendship, its companion journal is scheduled to be released in Spring 2001.

On Friendship is divided into chapters that include Being Yourself; Being Your Own Best Friend; Making Friends; Silver and Gold Friends; Friends and Lovers; Growing Apart; Lessons in Friendship; and Long-Distance Friends.

Teen Love : On Friendship is sure to be the next bestseller in this series, and a must-read for all teens.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 7 Up-Another entry from the publishers of Teen Ink: Our Voices, Our Visions (2000), and Teen Love: On Relationships (1999, both Health Communications). Chapter titles include: "Being Yourself!," "Being Your Own Best Friend," "What Is Friendship," "Friends in Trouble," "Growing Apart," and "The Best of Friendship." Each chapter contains a narrative definition of the topic; bits and pieces of insight and advice from the authors; quotes from famous people; and original poems, short stories, and personal remembrances written by teenagers. Information about the contributors appears at the end of the volume. The tone of the text, as in most inspirational books, is very emotional, and fans of that genre will not be disappointed. Put this book on your shelves with the hope that teenagers will find something in it that will enrich their lives.-Jana R. Fine, Clearwater Public Library System, FL

From Booklist

Gr. 6-10. Based on the familiar and successful Chicken Soup format, this title, part of the Teen Love series, explores the true meaning of friendship. Kirberger (aided by Mortensen, from MTV's Real World) supplements her general comments about having and being a friend with poems, stories, and essays by teens themselves. Swinging from sad (the "outgrowing" of friendship so typical of adolescence) to sweet (the evolution of friendship to romantic love), this comfortable and comforting book will reassure teens that they are not alone in wanting and needing friends and that they are worthy of friendship as well. I have not finished reading it yet. But from what I have read I thought was really good. I would recommend this book to teens. It tells stories about teens. I have read many stories in this book and they are helpful to me! This book is very much like chicken soup. I would suggest this book to anyone that enjoys the chicken soup series.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love my friends, October 7, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Teen Love: On Friendship (Paperback)
This book will be so popular. I loved that it reminded me ,through stories and poems that our friends are so important. I read stories of friendships that didn't last and the pain that was caused by that. It made me want to treat my friends better. I read about becoming your own person and it inspired me to do just that. The thing I liked the best was how there would be a great story and then just a little bit of advice...from Kim and Colin.(MTV Real World) It was nice to read stuff from both a female and a male. It just worked great ,the way it went from a story to a poem to some comments. I couldn't put it down and I am on my second reading now.
