STILL THE GREATEST BAND ON EARTH,
By dan ryan (NEW YORK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Teen Punks in Heat (Audio CD)
I'VE COME TO REALIZE THAT MOST SCREECHING WEASEL FANS WILL NEVER LIKE ANY OF THE MORE RECENT ALBUMS, ESPECIALLY THE ONES AFTER THE DEPARTURE OF VAPID AND PANIC. DARE I SAY THAT SCREECHING WEASEL MAY BE BETTER NOW THAN THEY EVER WERE! IT'S TRUE FOLKS. THE LAST ALBUM, EMO, IS THE GREATEST ALBUM I HAVE EVER HEARD AND I EXPECTED A STRONG FOLLOW UP TO IT. AFTER A LONG ANTICIPATED WAIT, I HAD "TEEN PUNKS IN HEAT" IN MY HANDS AND SINCE THEN ITS BEEN IN MY CD PLAYER NON STOP ALONG WITH THE NEW JETS TO BRAZIL ALBUM. THIS CD IS ALONG THE LINES OF A MIX BETWEEN "TELEVISION CITY DREAM" AND "MY BRAIN HURTS". YOU'VE GOT ANGRY QUICK SONGS SIMULAR TO TUNES ON TVCD AND SILLY LOVE SONGS LIKE "PAULINE" THAT REMIND YOU OF THE CLASSIC ALBUMS "MY BRAIN HURTS" AND "ANTHEM". TO TOP IT OFF, THE NEW ALBUM HAS SONGS MORE IN THE LYRICAL STYLE OF EMO AS WELL. WEASEL HAS PUT OUT ANOTHER PUNK MASTERPIECE. DON'T MISS IT!

If you like screeching weasel a hell of a whole lot you will love this record. Very high quality and songs just keep getting better. Special guest phillip from teen idols plays lead guitar, don't be an idiot, buy this record.

This probably deserves 2 and-a-half, maybe three stars. Maybe. The whole thing sounds to me like "Well, we've(I've)got these songs, they're rehearsed, we have a label, let's record them". That's about it, no real emotional attachment to or involvement with the material. I'm a long time Weasel fan too, but these songs just don't stay with me. Television City Dream is more memorable, and that's saying something. This one sounds a little fatter though, but that's cold comfort. I can't honestly say I wouldn't have put this record out though, there are no Ghandis or Albert Schweitzers in the music industry, Fugazi included, and everybody takes a dive now and again.
