Note: I'm waaaay tired. And a little bit drunk on cheesecake. That said: I really like this book. Cristin is always poignant, honest, and funny. You can expect that in any of her books, but what I adore about this book specifically is:

1) You have to love a virgin working in the porn industry.

2) The juxtaposition of the rawness of porn against budding young love.

3) Poems are often narrative, but rarely do you get an entire book that paints such a lovely picture of this relatable and fragile time in one's life: right out of college, full of hope, full of terror, full of real-world-kicking-you-in-the-faceness.

4) So, um, I think the line from the poem is, "I could make money off those tits . . ." or something like that. The heart of that poem: that the most popular porn is that of the most normal, ordinary, and extraordinary people has stuck with me long, long after reading it. Porn can be a very ugly, ugly business, and Cristin's ability to find the humane and the beautiful within it is . . . well, it's what she does.

Read it in public. It'll make your nipples hard.

Yes, there are poems about porn. Yes, some of the are titillating. But anyone reading it just for that or only seeing that is missing the point. What this book is really about is person struggling make ends meet in an awkward job. In that respect its a lot like her other book "Working Class Represent." The poems are funny, witty, and yes, occasionally even poignant.
