If It's Just Oldies Music You Want This Is A Great Buy,
By AvidOldiesCollector (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Teenage Crush (Audio CD)
When this first came out in 2002 from Warner Special Products we were in the latter stages of having been bombarded for years with TV ads for music "you can only get by mail order." The sound quality was always quite good and there were liner notes and even discographies - at least in those offered as part of the Time-Life "mail order only" campaign. But by 2002 things had changed dramatically as copyrights ran out - especially in Europe and Canada - and suddenly we were given choices - and often far less expensive than the Time-Life offerings - by new European distributors such as Ace, Bear Family, Naxos, Jasmine, Acrobat etc.In the U.S., while not always able to give you quite the catalogue available to European distributors (which resulted in some feather rustling in the industry), there were outfits like Rhino, Varése-Sarabande, Eric, Collector's Choice, Collectables proving material previously only available through the auspices of the so-called Big Four which, collectively, controlled some 70% of the WORLD'S music market: Sony, Warner, EMI and Universal. And, unlike releases direct from those sources, we were getting more and more in the way of background information, discographies and even sessionographies where multiple musicians were involved. THIS is what many among the buying public wished to see for their dollars. That's not to say that there wasn't - and isn't today - a fair share of the market just happy to get the music they remembered from their younger days without embellishments, and in those cases releases such as this one fill the bill nicely. If what you see here represents the music you remember best, and that's all you are interested in, this is a nice purchase. The tracks (and I include a discography for your added information - AC = Adult Contemporary introduced in 1961) are: Disc 1: 1. Dedicated To The One I Love - The Shirelles (Scepter 1203 - # 2 R&B/# 3 Pop March 1961; 2. Young Love - Tab Hunter (Dot 15533 - # 1 Pop/# 8 R&B Feb 1957; 3.
