Book Description

May 16, 2006 Youth Specialties
Girls are more than just sugar and spice. We've all figured that out. What we haven't figured out completely is how they're wired, why they do the things they do, how the world around them affects their choices and opinions, and what that means for youth ministry---until now. In Teenage Girls, you'll find advice from counselors and veteran youth workers, along with helpful suggestions on how to minister to teenage girls. Each chapter includes discussion questions to help you and other youth workers process the issues your own students face and learn how you can help them and mentor them through this tumultuous time. In addition to the traditional issues people commonly associate with girls, such as eating disorders, self-image issues, and depression, author Ginny Olson will guide you through some of the new issues on the rise in girls' lives. You'll understand more about issues related to: Family * Addiction * Emotional well-being * Mental health * Physical welfare * Sexuality * Spirituality * Relationships

4.0 out of 5 stars Teenage Girls, January 31, 2011
This review is from: Teenage Girls: Exploring Issues Adolescent Girls Face and Strategies to Help Them (Youth Specialties) (Paperback)
In Teenage Girls, you'll get first-person, no-holds-barred views of what it means to be a teenage girl in the 21st century along with helpful suggestions on how to better understand teenage girls, process the issues your own students face, and learn how you can help them and mentor them through the tumtultuous time. In addition to the traditional issues people commonly associate with girls (eating disorders, self-image issues, depression, etc.) author Ginny Olson will guide you through some of the new issues on the rise in girls' lives. You'll understand more about relational issues, family issues, cognitive issues, sexuality issues, and spiritual issues. As a teenage girl I have a hard enough time trying to understand what all is going on with me, so I can not imagine how difficult it would be for others trying to understand the complexity of teenage girls with all the hormones and crazy emotions. I think this book was dangerously close to the truth and I would recommend it to people new to youth ministerys and parents of teenage girls. Thank you Zondervan for the review copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars great, and very helpful for working with at-risk populations, January 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
i just finished the book and am in ministry with young women in a slum in Costa Rica. i was unsure if it would be relevant to the girls in the population where i work, but it sure has been!! not to mention it speaks to issues that are, in most cases, universal. i would recommend this book for any type of ministry with young women.
