This review is from: Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtle Black and White Box Set (Toy)
...The turtles started as a black and white comic by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. These awesome turtle figures are based on the artwork of the original comics, before the turtles got turned into a kid's cartoon franchise.
I've been a Turtle fan since the 80's when I was growing up (I'm 27 now), and I've been playing or displaying their toys throughout the years. I've got to say that these are defiantly some of the coolest Ninja Turtles figures out there, past or present. They're greatly detailed and the fact that their black and white makes them all the more cooler. If you love the ninja turtles, and love to collect figurines, I would defiantly recommend these. As far as children go, however, I'm not sure how wise it would be to pass these on to little kids. They are durable and highly posable, but I just get the feeling these weren't meant to be played with. It does seem like they might break at the joints if you pushed on them hard enough. I was a little nervous when trying to put Raphael's sai's through his fingers for fear of breaking off his hand in the process. The hands are a tight squeeze to put the weapons into, so be carefull. Now, since they're all black and white and there's no color, nor is there the first letter of their names on their belts to tell them apart, I've found that in case you get the weapons mixed up there are small noticable differences between the four of them: Raphael has a larger gap inbetween his fingers to put his sais through (I just don't really recommending puttin them in his hand that way, just do the normal by the handle). Leonardo has two things on his back to hold each one of his swords. Donatello is the only one of the 4 turtles not showing his teeth. Michelangelo kind of has this grin or smile on his face, while it seems that Leonardo and Raphael are baring their teeth in anger. Also, I must say that it looks cool that Michaelangelo's Nunchucks have actual little chains on them, and are not just plastic shaped like chains. However, the chains seem like they would be real easy to break. As a turtle fan, I love them, and as a toy collector, I love them. The only thing I really wish this pack came with is display stands to put them on. But they're feet are really big, so you shouldn't have any problem getting them to stand.

The first thing I couldn't help but stare at when I saw the package for the first time was the artwork. There are scenes from some of the original Mirage comics as well as the cover of issue 50, but not colored.
As far as the toys themselves go, I can't really imagine a more pleasing way of interpreting each Turtle into black and white toy form. If you're familiar enough with the comics, it won't be extremely difficult to tell the characters apart after you un-package them. The names are printed on the box above each respective Turtle, but even without that, you should still be able to figure out who's who. If for some reason the faces aren't enough, there are other details throughout the bodies that will help, especially concerning weapon placement. The weapons, I must say, are something to be liked very much. The attention to detail makes these Turtles very smoothly jump out of our comic books and onto our tables or dressers or whatever else the end up on. Not only to they look like the 1984 sketches, but they have a relatively high amount of possible poses. All around this has got to be the best buy for a long-time comic fan looking for action figures. The only thing missing Splinter, but the awesomeness of these Turtles is enough to make up for that!
