I'm really loving with what IDW has been doing with their new TMNT series. What they're achieving is pulling in the reigns from not only the original comics but also the original cartoon as well & weaving something wholly new yet still familiar & appealing to older fans. This volume spotlights four other central characters critical to the TMNTverse giving us more backstory to not just themselves & the turtles but providing glimpses into other's too like The Neutrinos, Dimension X, & Slash. First up is longtime ally Casey Jones who's been introduced into this series as a teenager or a young twenty something though he's not so far removed from his original roots that you don't recognize his nature & motives. We thankfully get more history on Splinter's past or "reincarnation" as they've been playing it up while he brutally fights his way through hordes of foot ninja. It's awesome that they've brought back & revamped fan favorite character Fugitoid & the April one shot really opens up the skeletons closet examining the going on's & out's of the covert Stockgen. I've thoroughly enjoyed each volume in this series so far & would love to see them handle & introduce more classic characters down the road like Radical & Carnage, Leatherhead, Nobody, Rat King, Renet, etc. This is a great read with great art too. Buy this book.

This is the second volume of IDW's micro-series which focuses on individual members of the TMNT universe. The first volume focused on each of the 4 ninja turtles; this volume focuses on Splinter, Casey Jones, April, and the Fugitoid.

SPOILERS

I really enjoyed this volume. The stories around Splinter, Casey Jones, and the Fugitoid were more like origin stories for the IDW universe. We get to see more of Splinter's life in ancient Japan prior to his reincarnation in rat form, learn more about Casey's life with his father, and learn about the Fugitoid's tragic past. We also see more of April's lab work.

I grew up with the TMNT cartoons and feel like most long time fans would enjoy this volume.

Just like the first volume this would have been perfectly placed in the ongoing series but making it supplemental is just a cash grab. The collection is nice and moves along the overall story but when read together doesn't tell an overarching story. The different artists are all over the place but nothing spectacularly good or bad. Also, the inclusion of Fugitoid is a huge misstep because its a story better placed in the main book. All that said, the individual tales are all good and should not be missed.

I really loved this one- the stories were excellent, and it arrived quickly and in excellent condition. I was especially excited by the last story- who knew the Fugitoid had so much to do with it all?!

IDW does a great job with the TMNT title, the new stories, the new angles, the art. It captures the essence of every character and their own origins and how characters meet is new and good.

Amazing read if you are a turtle fan. All the micro series are. Very convenient to have them in the same book instead of buying each copy for 3.99 a book
