I'm going to try and be as helpful as possible with this review. TL;DR at the end. This game is the third Activision Blizzard TMNT game. The first game was the Nick Turtles 2013 game which was faithful to the 2012 cartoon but was a little short and had some audio issues. It was developed by Magic Pockets. The second AB game was Out of the Shadows by Red Fly which is a game unto itself. Now this the third game also by Magic Pockets is a movie tie-in to the 2014 Movie that just came out.

First off this game is a dedicated 3DS title, it's only on the 3DS. The Nick Turtles game was also on the 3DS but as far as I can tell it was just a port with the polish turned off. OK you have more than one slot to save your game. This game lets you switch between all four turtles and pushes you to use them all. This game despite being developed by Magic Pockets has very little similarities besides maybe the way the dialogue is presented. It is a top down hack and slash dungeon crawl. It's more meandering than most action heavy games. Tactical play is paid lip service in the game but it's not really the focus here.

Right now I've cleared 2 chapters and have done one of the Side Missions. As far as I can tell the grid like maps are not randomly generated... they are static. The Turtle Lair is depicted as the hub. The Challenges section is just the "achievements" or "trophies" you've earned by completing objectives that you complete naturally through the game anyway. The Cheats section I don't know anything about.

3.0 out of 5 stars A semi decent TMNT game? WHO KNEW??? December 21, 2014
Right from the start there had to be red flags when announcing this new TMNT game.

1) It's a movie based game
2) It's exclusive to the 3DS
3) it was developed by Magic Pockets who were responsible for the pretty poor 4 player TMNT beat 'em up game released last year based on the Nickolodeon cartoon

But low and behold TMNT the movie game is actually semi decent. It's not great but just decent enough that if your a TMNT fan then you should at the very least give it a shot. The game takes place 3 months after the movie where Shredder has come back to wreck havoc on the Turtles and Splinter. Gameplay wise Magic Pockets definitely took an interesting route. It's basically a VERY light diablo clone. It's an isometric viewed, dungeon crawler beat 'em up where you collect items and weapons to level up the turtles. What's also pretty cool is you can craft the turtles new types of weapons based on the items you collect. So for example you can fit Donatello with a more powerful Bo staff that has a chance to poison enemies, or hook up Michaelangelo with nunchucks that will stun enemies for a few seconds, etc. Each turtle also has different abilities and perks that you can level up. Along the way you'll face off against movie versions of Rat King Slash, Baxter Stockman and then to Shred Head himself. A few complaints I have are that 70% of the levels take place in the sewers so after a bit the levels start to look the same, music is almost non existent, and voice clips repeat far too often. Also the game can be completed in about 4 hours tops.

I'd say if your interested then give it a chance. As far as movie based games go this one is actually OK...which is a relief for a change.
