When I first saw Rahzar on here, I got hyped- he looked so cool and way different from his original design in the second TMNT movie, and my daughter was excited too, since she always loves the bad guys. Once she saw him in the new TMNT series, she immediately put this figure on her wish list. He was quick to sell out, but is easy to find now, and as a result, she finally got him! This is definitely one of the cooler looking bad guys from the new show, and makes a great addition to any collection.

Rahzar is about 6 inches tall and looks downright menacing. Bones and spine sticking out all over the place, and those Pumpkinhead-esque hands make him stand out from the rest. He has articulation at the head, shoulders, waist and hips. On top of his right hand, an extra bigger hand projectile can be fired by flicking or quickly pressing against the peg sticking out at the bottom of his elbow. It doesn’t go very far but it’s still neat. Despite there being all kinds of spikes and bones sticking out, nothing on Rahzar is very sharp. Younger kids shouldn’t be in any danger when playing with this toy.

The issues I have with the figure are that he can’t stand on his own very well, and that the actual product doesn’t look anywhere near as good as the figure in the stock image above. Look at the picture and he’s all kinds of brown, black and white. The real figure is almost entire black, with the exposed bones being grey. His eyes are still red, just not as bold. When you really look at the figure, you’ll see that the paint kind of ruins the details and comes off as muddy too. Standing up isn’t one of Rahzar’s selling points either- you have to really, really put effort into getting a good pose for him to stay standing up unless you want to use a stand or prop him up against something else.

Do I like this Rahzar figure? As Master Splinter would comically say "Yes.....and No!" So this 4-star rating is really more of a strong three. When I first saw the package it looked impressive, until I took it out of the package and became disappointed, until I started writing this review really checking it out and it's not as bad. Got that?

Good...so Rahzar looks very hunched but he is capable of rising up to reach a height of 5.625 inches. The feral sculpt is very sinewy with bones protruding at the calves, hips, chest, spinal column & forearms. The massive hands have deadly claws & the facial features are that of a demonic hound. Now here is where I get picky.

For articulation he has hinged-swivels at the shoulders & hips, swivels at the waist & neck. The lack of elbows & knees combined with arms & legs molded bent creates very limited poses. The left arm & upturned paw can be raises and he now looks like he's panhandling, push it back and he's bowling, or swing it out to combine with the right arm to achieve a more menacing pose. Compounding this limitation are the feet configuration. The right is fairly flat-footed but the left is slightly bent at the "ball", he can balance, just don't breath on him. And then there is a neck-joint that is rendered useless by the hairdo.

(Do they sell stands for these figures? Generally both feet come tapped as Rahzar's are but the only stands I can find to fit are the old Classic TMNT 3.75" grey manhole covers. And as the figures accumulate locating enough "NYC" stands becomes unreasonable.)

My last gripe concerns an ongoing trend with Playmates to provide representative product images. Those white highlighted feet are brown. The white spinal spikes are brown.

Our resident 3-year-old really wanted this figure and one other Ninja Turtle "bad guy" for Christmas. He carried the brochure around for a month, pointing out the pictures to anyone who would look. He explained the need for these guys to Santa.

So, of course, I searched Amazon and found them.

Rahzar is impressively evil-looking and menacing. The new owner likes him, but he has pointed out a couple of serious drawbacks. Rahzar can't stand up. Or, if you balance carefully enough, he stands for a few seconds. This makes him a pushover for the good guys. He can't fight very well while lying on his back.

Also, the bony claw accessory just sort of pushes in and doesn't stay put. That would make a great real life gag if Rahzar tried to get people to shake hands with him, but it lacks the fearsomeness a 3-year-old looks for in action figures.

I think Rahzar will stick around the toy box to give the Ninja Turtles someone to fight, but I don't expect the figure will see a lot of action.

I ordered Rahzar along with the TMNT Mix And Match Mutations turtles. I pictured him to be a bit bigger, but he's slightly smaller. So, why the 4 stars? I don't mean to nitpick, but his right hand has a larger hand that goes on top of his hand that supposed to "fling". You have to flick it in order to do so, which is a bit dumb, instead of a button that makes it
shoot out. But this is just me nitpicking. Overall, it still is a cool toy.

My 4 year old son loves everything about the ninja turtles so we were very excited when we discovered rahzar was finally turned into an action figure. The one and only issue I have with him is that the claw that can come off does so way too easily and ALL the time... my son was getting so frustrated with it that he just stopped using the piece all together. But he still plays with and loves the toy.
