5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome game
This is byfar the best TMNT game ever. The graphics are cel-shaded (like Zelda: Wind Waker) and they are awesome. There are various levels where you go through using one of four turtles - Raphael, Leonardo, Donatello, and Michelangelo; each using their own unique and special set of moves/weapons to defeat various enemies. It's basically a hack/slash game. Raph uses Sais,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute and colorful but too childish
From a graphics point of view this game is very impressive. Sadly from a gameplay angle it's kind of limited and every level is basically the same thing.

This could basically be described as a side-scrolling beat-em-up, though the uncontrollable camera POV becomes very annoying. And compared with old-school games of the same genre, it doesn't hold up. Pow, biff, bam,...

Pow, biff, bam, smack! It just goes on and on for the whole game.

There are some levels that could have been cool, like the rooftop or subway stages. How cool would it have been to chuck the bad guys off the roof or onto the subway tracks? Very, but an invisible wall prevents this from happening. It's so disappointed that a lot of exploration is cut short. In the subway level trains rocket past in the tunnels on either side of you, but in the middle tunnel (where you battle loads of bad guys) there's no trains at all. Most levels are this way, there's just no REAL interaction with the environment.

The Streets of Rage games on the Genesis were better. It's the same thing. The city is overrun with thugs headed by a big boss. You beat them up and kill the boss. TMNT does not improve on this concept. Cute graphics though.

It's also kind of easy. The game is totally aimed at kids. I've seen better, I've seen worse. But I would suggest renting the game as it's long-time appeal is drastically short.

It's basically a hack/slash game. Raph uses Sais, Leo uses a Kai, Donatello a bo staff, and Michaelangelo nunchakus. At the end of each level is a boss which you have to defeat. Fun playing by yourself but even better with a friend.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not as good as the classic TMNT games, December 11, 2003
This review is from: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Video Game)
I was extatic when i found out that a new TMNT game was coming out on gamecube. I couldnt wait to get it. Of course, it was almost inevitable that it wouldnt be as good as the originals were on nintendo and nintendo 64. This was true, but saying that, this is still a fun game. Its the classic beat em up style game...except its very easy. Especially when playing with a friend, it almost gets a little boring because it really isnt possible to lose.I am a competitive gamer, so this was a major downfall for me. It does have great graphics and fairly good gameplay though. In conclusion, i would suggest, even for the die hard fans of previous TMNT games, rent this game first...because its likely you will conquer it in the 3 days of rental. And after the 3 days, if you still love it, pick up a copy.

I loved the game the first time I played it on the demo in Mario kart Double dash. It is almost like the original. The levels are different but this TMNT game shares many similarities. personally all doubts about this game should be forgotten because this game is a sure fire blast for all TMNT fans!

actually this is the fifth game, there were 3 TMNT games on NES and the list goes like this:
1) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
2) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The arcade game
3) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: The Manhattan Project
the fourth was on SNES:
4) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time

And all of these games are awesome and there is no doubt that the cell shading made this game better. The games takes place in the same world the new TV show and old comics do, a dark NY City with a lot more action and a flowing plot. Although that fact that you can still only have 2 people playing at once istn't thrilling, the game is still awesome and worth the $40.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reminisant, December 16, 2003

This review is from: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Video Game)
I bought this game because i was a huge fan back in the day when the original turtles were around. The game was very well done, but it does get repetious. But it looks good and plays good. The only gripe i have about the game is its saving. I think it should save after every stage instead of every level. But i am having a blast with it and suggest it to anybody whom are fans now or where back when they really kicked butt.

4.0 out of 5 stars Most Impressive, November 7, 2003

Well, I have to admit this was an impulse purchase. I was a big fan of TMNT as a kid, and now as an adult with the means, I just had to try this game out. I was impressed by the graphics, looks just like an after school cartoon. I was disapointed by the fact that it is only two-player. The developers must not have realized that all new game systems have four player ability. And I have to agree, the tournament mode Sucks! Good luck trying to get a lick in against the computer. I've only been able to win once. But the story mode more than makes up for it. If you're a Turtle fan, you won't be dissapointed. If you're still aprehensive, you can always rent it first!

This is the best game. It has it all. Heres why

Graphics- Just look there beutiful. Cel Shaded. Watch the explosions. The turtles are colored a little different, so you can tell the difference between you and your friends

Gameplay- It awesome there are 3 level difficultys. Also you can change controls for all players. IT gets harder every level. Great bosses. And when you walk around its awesome. There are 6 worlds I beleive with 6 Levels in each world. You can play up to 4 players. also when you get to the second level it gets addicting and hard and interesting. a.k.a awesome. YOU CAN SKATEBOARD!

Sound- Its great very clear. Your turtles shout out things when they fight. Noises and music rock.

Story- The story is ok. Some cutscenes are boring some are cool and some are hilarious.

Controls- excellent many moves some specials for each tutles. You can also unlock moves as you go through story mode, like sir attacks.

Side stuff- it has vs. when you can fight ur friends, and its sweet. also challange mode i havent unlocked yet.

Replay- is good you can play story mode on harder difficultys and vs. mode with friends

2.0 out of 5 stars This is NOT the turtles I knew?, July 5, 2004

I was looking forward to playing the new turtles game because like a few others on here, I grew up with the turtles from the 80's. Now I am a HUGE fan of changing stories up and making things more interesting, but these turtles were cheesy!!!
The boss fights in the Arcade version and other turtle games were FAR more exciting and a lot less repetitive. I played the game through and recognized only about 2 enemies from the original: Shredder and Stockman. Who are these other people?? And why is April and Casey this white-trash couple now??!!
Anyway, the gameplay was good and so were the graphics, but if you think you are getting old school turtles...RUN FAR AWAY.

P.S Whats with the new theme song??? GeeZZZZ
