This game is so much fun! How many of you remember pumping quarter after quarter into this game? Well now you no longer have to! This game for the Xbox Live Arcade is the exact same as the original except better! Play with up to 4 players locally for some TMNT ninja fighting fun! Don;t have 4 people to play with? No worries! Now you can play online with people from anywhere! I have had this game for 2 years now and I have yet to have a problem finding people online to play with. It is that popular still! And the best part? Continue all you want without pumping in $25 worth of quarters!!!! This is worth every penny. If you are getting one XBLA game, this should be it! Hands down you will NOT find a better deal for your money!

I remember playing this back in the day, pumping quarter after quarter into the machine, and now that it is on Xbox Live Arcade, for $5 you get the game and can play with unlimited continues. Playing it now, you can really get a feel for just how much of a quarter muncher this is. And while you can beat the game in under a half hour, and let's face it, the game play isn't the greatest; it's still worth it for the nostalgia alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cowabunga, indeed!, April 13, 2011
This review is from: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1989 Classic Arcade [Online Game Code] (Software Download)
This game is the reason why I became a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan. NOT because of the shows. OR the comics. Instead, the appeal came from the games. I overlooked TMNT at first, mainly because the shows were, well, just made me think "Eh...I think I'll pass", but after playing the arcade game and its NES version, I just had to get into the craze.

The gameplay is as tough and awesome as the Simpsons arcade game (released a year later). Beating up a bunch of ninjas with swords and nunchucks....ON SKATEBOARDS (in one part of a level), is cool. The bosses are also pretty epic, but the hardest one is obviously Shredder, with his annoying attack that devolves the Turtles into ordinary turtles. More action segments onscreen include runaway cars, boulders down stairs, ninjas hopping out from advertisements or trucks, and the Technodrome's level, which itself is full of awesome beat 'em up action.

The graphics are terrific. They are fully detailed and colorful. They also make the onscreen action look very intense at times. The music also rocks hard. These tunes are so epic that you may as well download them as mp3s for your iPod (I know you will do it...)! Once you listen to the background music, I assure you that you will be imagining a high-speed skateboard chase with ninjas! The voice quality is excellent, as well. You can hear the characters talk clearly.

What makes this game really fun is that now that it's on the Xbox 360, there's a feature in which you can play ONLINE MULTIPLAYER! Sure, you can sit with buddies on the couch, but online gaming is where its at! And now it's at some of its finest in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

Overall, this is an amazing gem that all Xbox 360 owners should buy.

Bought this and Paperboy from Amazon when they were on sale for $5 each. Got the code instantly, entered it into my Xbox and was playing this nostalgic game all day! Nintendo NES...where did you go???

Anyways, great game, I suggest buying it when it becomes available.

3.0 out of 5 stars SAME AS ORIGINAL!!, May 14, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1989 Classic Arcade [Online Game Code] (Software Download)
When I purchased this game on XBOX LIVE, I thought that the graphics were going to be updated to present day standards. However, this is not the case. This is exactly as the title describes, the ORIGINAL TMNT 1989 Classic Arcade game!

I loved this game as a kid and remember playing the game all night long at my friend's house (aroung age 10) and loving every minute of it. I enjoyed playing this game again and since I do not have any old game consoles, this is a very easy way for you to play the old "classic" arcade games you played when you were younger.

If you enjoyed the original, you will enjoy this as well. But, don't expect anything different than the orignal game provided, unlike the remastered versions of the orignal Star Wars trilogy.

I was a little dissapointed with the cost, Amazon sells it less than XBOX LIVE, and the fact that there are very limited achievements (totaling 200 points). There is no way to save a game and once you run out of lives, (3) the game is over and you must start again. It is obvious that the developers did not put any additional thought or effort into trying to add more features, possibly a multiplayer or additional level, or even the option to save the game. This is why I awarded it 3 stars overall.

On the other hand, I gave this game 5 stars for its "fun" rating, because it brings back memories of playing it with a kid, and just like in 1989, this game is extremly addicting and fun to play!! --Especially with a friend!

How many quarters did I waste on this game when I was a kid? However many it was I am certain it was not a better deal than paying $5 here with unlimited continues. This game is exactly as I remember it and it allows 4 players to play at the same time just like the original. A great port!

A fun port of an old favorite, however the game isn't really worth the price and I am a lot more excited about the Turtles in Time revamp which is coming out soon. I really wish I had tried the demo before buying this, as I don't feel the value for the price paid.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyment will be (mostly) proportional to nostalgia, August 5, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1989 Classic Arcade [Online Game Code] (Software Download)
This is a game from the bygone era of arcades. It's graphically flashy (circa 1989), totally rad (circa 1989), and designed to eat quarters ($59.99 is the new 25 cents). This is from the time when playing video games meant you would die, repeatedly, and only quarters could bring you back to life. For $5, you don't have to worry about quarters anymore, which isn't all that bad a deal.

Enjoyment is going to be (mostly) proportional to nostalgia, so if you don't remember this game there is probably no point in picking it up now, unless you demand to play every beat 'em up in the history of gaming. It's a good beat 'em up, but it's dated -- 1989.

The port and the additions to the game are excellent - it looks and plays great. Online play is a blast, especially if you have a friend that also remembers Hammer pants and the first George Bush.

3.0 out of 5 stars No Quarters, July 29, 2009

I have this game for the NES, but thought $5 was not a bad deal.

Since beating the game within 30 minutes of the download, I haven't played again. It's a fun game, but very short (you get unlimited continues).

I think what made this game more appealing at the arcade was the fact that you had to keep feeding it quarters to beat it. When your money was on the line each life meant more. With no consequences for your actions, you place little value on your life.
