Sylvain Sylvain put out some great records. Now this one is on CD. The guy is a clever songwriter, plays guitar and piano well, and all that can be heard on this CD. Yeah, he was in a famous band and has lots of well-known friends, but, you know, this guy has written some great songs, starting out with one on this CD-- Cops are Coming. Oddly, it might be his past that has hurt him. The songs here are crisp, at times innocent. If you want some clever straight ahead music that takes you backwards and forwards in time then Sylvain Sylvain is up to the task. The band on this CD is fantastic. Sylvain Sylvain did good on this one.

Why did this album not get more attention? Why did a real company not pick this up and properly re-master it" Why is Sylvain Sylvain not more famous?
If these songs came from a different performer with a less infamous career, it would have received more accolades. This is really good stuff. This music is just basic good time 1950s. innocent rock and roll. There is no touch of the New York Dolls here at all. This is like a cross between Chuck Berry, Carole King and the play Grease. The best songs are "deeper and deeper", "Teenage News" and the delicate "Without You". I like some of the work by David Johansen, Some by Johnny Thunders but this, by far, holds up as accessible contemporary music better than his former band mates. I cannot stress enough that this classic 70's work needs to be re-mastered. This is a forgotten treasure. |
