Not the best, not the worst,
By "fenixmxpx" (NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Teenage Politics (Audio CD)
Teenage politics. What exactly would this mean?I still don't know. But the MXPX album is pretty solid. Released on renowned Christian punk label Tooth and Nail Records in 1995, the album was filled with strong hooks and surprising songwriting talents for three teenage kids. Songs like Punk Rawk Show, Sugarcoated Poison Apple, Something More and Different Things have that high speed pop melodies of the Life In General album. Also, there are a handful of songs like Inquiring Minds Want To Know, Americanism and Democracy have an angry political bent left over from Pokinatcha. The album has a smooth hidden song at the end, Dolores. It's a catchy little punk love song (like we haven't heard enough of those. . .), done with good vocals and awesome fast guitar playing. False Fiction has some interesting rhythm changes, thanks to drum wizard Yuri. Rainy Day and Moneytree have a really poppy feel, almost like MXPX's most recent work. Mike Herrera's writing was really good here. He already had some insightful lines in a few songs, and the music stays in your head. His singing sounds a little snotty compared to him today, but it's punk rock, so what do you expect? Tom Weisnewski made his first full length appearance with the band for this album, and he did some very cool things (listen to Moneytree or Something More to hear what a catchy guitarist sounds like). Yuri he's awesome and always has been, 'nuff said. Overall though, this isn't the best album by MXPX. Life In General is chock full of hooky songs, Slowly Going The Way Of The Buffalo has a more mature sound, and The Everpassing Moment is a slightly different sound as a whole. Plus, the live album At The Show showcases the band's manic live prescence. Any of these would be advised as better buys. But Teenage Politics is a good album to put on and jump around to. If you feel like being a kid for a while.

This is one of their early cds but it is still good! This cd includes one of their most famous songs "Punk Rawk Show". Even though some people might not like it because it is "Not Like They Are Now" it is still a good cd and a new person to the band should get this cd.ROCK ON MxPx!!

Growing up, listening to Green Day, one day a friend played a CD for me from a group I'd never heard of. This was before I became a Christian. I practically changed my life around listening to this CD, it's positive and still very groovy message, Christian morals and tightness of this trio. If you're a Christian, you'll be able to relate to the lyrics and their (mostly) Bible based teachings If you're not a Christian, listen to Mike sing about how great life is when you actually find out what Christ is all about. This is "one of those CDs" that's a must in my collection. If you're into Green Day, NOFX, Blink 182 - give these guys a listen, I guaruntee you'll be pleasantly suprised! :)

It Got Five Stars... Does It Really Need A Title,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Teenage Politics (Audio CD)
This is MxPx's best cd (which is a tough choice, because they're all so good). In fact, this is probably the best cd I've ever heard. Every song is incredible, there's not one that you have to skip. They are all very catchy and very good. They have strong melodies, and do that without sacrificing the cd's punkiness. Don't get me wrong, it is "pop-punk", but it is punkier than most pop-punk/ska-punk acts (ala New Found Glory, Midtown, Less Than Jake, which are all good bands). Another amazing thing about this cd is that they were in high school when they wrote this album. The songs do seem like they kinda go by a formula after a while, but that didn't bother me at all. Mike's vocals are really good on this album, especially considering how young they were. The lyrics are pretty good. Only few songs have any political meaning (around 4 or 5 out of the 19), but that's alright. They are a Christian band, but besides 2 or 3 songs, you couldn't tell. I can't say enough about this cd. There aren't any major flaws. If you are a fan of punk or emo, BUY THIS CD, you won't be dissapointed. What are you waiting for- go get it.

The perfect Christian teen-angst album,
By A Customer
This review is from: Teenage Politics (Audio CD)
This CD is perfect for people who like, and can identify with, music expressing frustrations with parents, society, and a whole range of other ennerving things, but are offended by the harsh lyrics of secular music. MxPx (Magnified Plaid)'s Teenage Politics is all these (other than the harsh lyrics, of course), but Christ-minded. They lament everything from parents ("I'm not mad, but I think they forget what it's like, and how hard it is to be a teenager") to the legalistic ("Legalistic people suck, legalism makes me sick"). A teen-angst CD your parents would approve.

Awesome song for a awesome band,

Okay if you are into a punk rawk disc then this is the buy for you. Alot of fun songs with a christian message. And even for people who are not christian this is an awesome pickup full of great lyrics, good guitar, awesome drums (go drums!), and sweet bass. THere really is nothing wrong with this cd. Best song of course is Punk Rawk show and teenage politics in my opinion.
I also have to agree with the review stated earlier, that is an awesome talent for this band to be able to copy BLink 182 when they came out before them. FOR THE REVIEWER WHO WROTE THAT: MAKE A REVIEW THAT MAKES SENSE AND ACTUALLY LISTEN TO THE CD NEXT TIME!

The Punk Show,
By Porscha Williams (Dallas, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Teenage Politics (Audio CD)
If Christian punk's your thing, MxPx's "Teenage Politics" is the way to go. It's just full of anti-government punk melodies. It's probably one of my favorite albums to date. Most of the album can be construed as one big teenage anthem, so the title fits it well. "Different Things," and "Something More" hit a heartfelt 'open your eyes' type note, while "Punk Rawk Show" makes you wanna get up and see one. Overall, i give it 4 stars because it just freaking rocks my socks. (P.S. Listen for the hidden track, "Delores")
