A great resource,

My teenager was just diagnosed with ADD. This book is user friendly for parents and still a very valuable tool for teachers (I am a teacher also). It just explains so many "mysteries" that the AD/HD child presents: why can't they be on time, why do they battle you, why is everything around them messy, why, why, why......? AND, as another reviewer stated, I am validated as a mom. I am not the awful mom I thought I must be. Now I can keep digging our way through this and be pro-active to help my child. The book offers solid, realistic guidance. The book is also full of HOPE. With early intervention, these kids will shake out to be wonderful people, though the ride might be bumpy! Be sure to check out "A Bird's Eye View" by the same author.

As the mother of a teenager with ADD, this book was a real eye-opener. After years of seeing many behaviors in my adolescent/teenager that I thought seemed a bit odd, I read this book and realized that these behaviors added up to ADD. Did you know that a teenager with ADD often struggles with falling asleep and getting up in the morning? I'm not talking about the normal "night owl" thing - I'm talking about staying up until 4:30 AM on a school night - and not because s/he is doing homework!!! Heavenly days - no homework!! Did you know that a teenager with ADD can be very creative and think thru multiple details of something they are really interested in? - Have you ever tried to have your teenager dictate a research paper to you - and you do the typing? You can unleash their abilities in many different ways! I do agree that often times medication is necessary (it is with my teenager). This book will help parents understand the symptoms, common behaviors, along with helpful solutions to really help your teenager with ADD/ADHD reach their full potential! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book!

Teenagers with ADD and ADHD,

I have read sooooo many books about ADD/ADHD and when I came across this book at my library I sat down and started reading. Couldn't put it down so took it home, started taking notes and found myself wanting to highlight and sticky note so many places. So I returned the rental to the library and bought my own. I have share the information with other parents and they are just as relieved as I was when I found this book. It is so easy to use and to understand. The writers totally got the fact that if a parent is reading this book that they are already overwhelmed and need to be able to read a book that calms them first and gives them a hug and says "Hey, I've been there and I made it, my child is happy, successful and I still have my hair." It's a MUST HAVE!!!!

This book is written by a highly qualified woman..who has ADD herself. It came recommended to me from a friend who has raised four kids of her own with ADHD.
It is honest, informative and gives a lot of insights as to how to understand and help teens with ADD/ADHD. The author also has a background in teaching and counseling, which makes me find the book even more credible. I also bought her took on teaching teens with ADD and it is a good reference too. This is a wonderful resource for parents struggling to understand why thier ADD/ADHD kids do the things they do. Especially as a mother, it helped relieve the guilt I feel, wondering what I did wrong. (Answer: nothing, this truly is a medical condition!) This book will help explain the physiological aspects in understandable terms and provide helpful tips & strategies for your family.

Chris Zeigler Dendy writes very informative books that are easy to read and understand. She truly understands what parents of ADHD children live with everyday and she has practical solutions to everyday problems. She bases her solutions on what teens with ADHD have told her that works for them. I highly recommend any book by Chris Zeigler Dendy.

I have read several books on the subject and this is BY FAR the best, most useful, most right-on, and easy to read I have found on the subject. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in understanding the disorder and should be required reading for all teachers and guidance counselors.

This book is essential for parents of a kid with ADHD. It's like an owner's manual for our kids! If I could have had a book like this in the early days of my son's diagnosis, I might not have made so many mistakes with him. It could easily replace 5 or 6 other books I've bought about kids with ADHD. The description of typical ADHD problems could have his name at the top - he OWNS all of them! The tips and tricks in this book are born of experience and they work - I can't say enough good things about Chris and her son. There is a particularly encouraging section at the end of the book, written by the former teens themselves, describing what they went through as teens and how they are doing now. They all sound so normal! Even happy and productive! This gives us perspectives on the tearing-out-my-hair days. Our kids are wonderful, even when they are at their worst. This book will give you comfort and courage to face the hard days. Get it!

I can't begin to express how awesome this book is. My child is 14, recently diagnosed, and this book has been a priceless reference to me. Just about every question you can imagine is covered in a very comprehensive way. It is easy to understand and she backs what she says with the latest and greatest scientific research. This book has helped me to understand ADHD and how to deal with it in a very practical way and my son is doing great. The only suggestions I might make is: 1) update medications section to include vyvanse. 2) need a more comprehensive section on sibling relations (that is a major issue for many of us). 3) include a section on gifted children with ADHD. Still I highly recommend!
