From the Back Cover

"How do I teach my teen to stay pure?"
"How do I create a media-safe home?"
"How should I handle discipline and rebellion issues?"
"What can I do to safeguard my teen's faith?"

The questions and concerns never stop when it comes to parenting teens--especially these days, when culture is throwing more and more unhealthy things at our kids. Add teenage hormones, rebellion, and experimentation to the mix, and it's no wonder so many families are suffering. It doesn't have to be this way, though.

Teen expert Jim Burns provides you with real-life answers and advice for navigating this ever-changing season in your child's life. Tackling even the most sensitive topics, he shows how you can give your teen the tools to make wise decisions about

* Dating and sexuality
* The Internet and social media
* Music, TV, and movies
* Faith matters . . . and much more

Complete with an invaluable section on common problems ranging from homework hassles to drug and alcohol use, this encouraging book can help you be the parent your teen needs.

"With issues such as dating, sexuality, peer pressure, self-image, bullying, and pornography, how can parents guide their teenagers, keep them safe, and encourage good decision-making based on Christian faith? [Burns] addresses many of the challenges teens sometimes face, including body image, depression, sexual abuse, and loss. This book is a must-read for Christian parents. It will let them know they are not alone as they help their teen navigate adolescence."

Review written by Chris Hyde of the Foursquare Church:

Jim Burns has been on the frontlines of both youth and parenting ministries for decades. He brings a wealth of wisdom and experience to his latest book, Teenology: The Art of Raising Great Teenagers--a fantastic resource for parents of teens as well as those who work in youth ministry.

The book is packed with information every parent of a teen should know. It provides real-life answers and advice for navigating this ever-changing season in life but is not overwhelming, because Burns keeps the information concise and easy to understand.

Part one of the volume focuses on parenting teens to become responsible adults. Burns helps parents understand the developmental changes that are going on in their teen's lives and gives insights into how to parent teens in our current culture. Key chapters focus on dealing with media influences, moral purity, communication and spiritual growth. As a parent of a teen, I appreciated the way he approached the developmental issues and the societal factors, and found this combination helpful in my parenting.

Part two is a short section that gives quick, insightful helps in how to deal with the common problems that affect teens and parents today. Among other issues, Burns addresses eating disorders, drug and alcohol use, tattoos and piercings, driving, weight issues, homework struggles and even suicide. This section offers a wealth of simple tips that can be a handy reference as parents navigate the potentially difficult teen years.

I highly recommend this book as a resource to parents who want to understand why their teens think and act the way they do, as well as to others who want help in guiding teens to become responsible, Christian adults.

I read this book in a Mother's of Teen's class at church. It has been a total hit with all of us in this class.
Using both his own experience as a parent and a ministry leader as well as the experiences and advice of many other wise leaders, Jim has put together the ultimate handbook for parenting a teenager in this decade.
He addresses the challenges with bold honesty and real solutions. He tackles issues of our changing culture, teaching our kids to stay pure, dealing with media challenges and issues with troubled teens. Additionally, he talks about the everyday stuff that I thought was only going on in my home...but apparently is quite common.
Tied together beautifully with scripture and quotes from various leaders...this book has been a true treasure to me, my family and the moms in my class.
His key phrase encourages us to "Stay calm and work your plan"...Got it Jim!

I have three children. My oldest child is entering the teen years and I was pulling my hair out. This book gave practical advice and helped me realize that I was not alone in this and that my child was normal. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Although the book is faith based it isn't preachy. I would recommend this book.
