5.0 out of 5 stars UNDERSTANDING WHO YOU ARE!, February 17, 2002

(REAL NAME)
Stedman Graham's book is both powerful and practical. He meets teens on their own turf, and seeks to empower them by helping them believe in themselves. Mastering the "rules of the road" is essential. His tips include discipline, good attitudes, working hard on the things you are passionate about, overcoming procrastination, and understanding who you are. He emphasizes the value of who you are is how people identify you. He warns of the pitfalls inherent in today's society; that is, people telling you what you can't do, - and people inflicting their pain on you. He understands that there are people who will always try to "knock you down", but stresses that you can be successful based on yourself. "Sometimes the things you don't do are more important than what you do do", he offers, and further implores teens to do what adds value to you. Mr Stedman's concept of a responsible partnership between parents, the system and the child is commendable. After you finish this remarkable perspective, read "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff", by Richard Carlson. Both books are survival fare with a focus on teens, but anyone of any age wcould benefit from the information they contain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great guide for success!, September 24, 2000
By A Customer
This is a great book! It talks about all of the important issues that I wish I thought about while I was a teen. I have recommended this book to several of the students at the high school where I teach. For students that are college-bound the DayStar Guide to Colleges for African American Students, by Thomas Lavist is a perfect companion to this book. This book will help students to get your "head right" and help you to figure out what you want to do. And then the DayStar College Guide will tell you how to do it.

5.0 out of 5 stars YES TEENS HAVE CHOICES!, July 10, 2005
I liked this book because the author clearly respects the teens he is addressing. Too often these days references to teens are negative. Or teens life plans are pigeon-holed by an author's implicit assumption that "What do you want to be when you grow up?" has only one answer. From my coaching practice, I have seen that many teens are Renaissance Souls (people who have too many interests to pick just one.) To limit advice to how to pick the one right career path or college or job is to leave them hanging and frustrated. Fortunately Graham's advice does not fall into that trap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful, July 5, 2005
I am a high school English teacher and I found the book to be very helpful and motivational for high school students who need to be pointed in the right direction. So many kids need to have a vision and clear goals for themselves and this book helps to guide them in the right direction as well as making the proper choices.

Excellent! I teach middle schoolers, and I know teenagers! This is written right down there on their level and offers sincere and practical advice. They'll read it--they'll like it--and that's half the battle!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Teens, Your Teen Will Take This Book to Heart, July 17, 2009
By
Wendy Suto (Cleveland, OH USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As a parent myself of a 17 year old young woman, I can appreciate how many other independent authors wish to publish self help books for teenagers, teaching about confidence, self esteem and how to best succeed in life. However, in order to grab a young reader's attention and keep it throughout a book, an author truly needs to know how to talk to teenagers, how to really get their attention. I believe Stedman Graham knows how to do this, and do this well, in his book "Teens Can Make it Happen." He uses easy to understand language, asks tough questions of teens, like "Name a fear you have and why is this a fear for you?" and "What do you want to accomplish in your life and why do you want to achieve these goals?" and uses simple step by step lists, charts, and plenty of extra spaces in the many pages of this book to allow teenagers to jot down their dreams and hopes and plans. Graham's book for teens is uniquely created for the purpose of now just showing teens a guide of how to succeed in life, but giving them the exact tools and guidelines and exercises to help them devise a solid game plan with confidence. I cannot wait for his visit to Cleveland, Ohio July 23rd, where he will be giving a free speaking engagement at the Quicken Loans arena on behalf of the University of Phoenix. 4.0 out of 5 stars TEENS Book - Both Instructional and Inspirational, February 3, 2009
I purchased this book to incorporate ideas into my soft-skills training business. I think this book lays out a great plan for teens to develop their leadership skills and self-confidence. Mr. Graham clearly outlines a strategy for success for teens that they can relate to and easily follow. I would highly recommend this book not only for teens but also for educators and those who work closely to help empower young people to reach their full potential.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Influence!, March 19, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am a parent who bought this book for my daughter when she was in Middle school and just beginning to "find herself". Unlike so many other kids, she has been so focused on her goals and and dreams that she has had no time or inclination to be on drugs or alcohol. She excelled in Band, English, Music, Spanish and was a member of the International Baccalaureate program. She is now away at college with a job as a Resident Assistant in her dorm. I just found this book as I was cleaning her closet and it is filled with notes as she planned her life and goals. It says she plans to one day have her doctorate degree and be married and working. I believe this book made her think, and obviously, plan, what she wants out of life. I am going to buy another for my friend's son!
