Making friends, finding true love, enduring rough days at school, or just being yourself -- we all meet new (and old!) challenges every day. Carol Weston, teen advice columnist, has good advice for whatever you're facing.

In For Teens Only, Carol collects the words and thoughts of the wisest and wittiest thinkers of all time from every corner of the globe, from Pablo Picasso to Jennifer Lopez; from Mark Twain to Indira Gandhi and Halle Berry. Then she adds her own insights, collected over the years from her conversations and correspondence with thousands of real teens.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Author of Private and Personal: Questions and Answers for Girls Only, advice columnist Carol Weston offers more words to the wise in For Teens Only: Quotes, Notes & Advice You Can Use. From School Library Journal

Grade 6 Up-Sage advice, complete with 573 relevant and inspiring quotes, is the main focus of this interesting and upbeat self-help book. Topics include mind, body, friends, relationships, school, family, and work, all presented in an understanding and straightforward manner. Teens seeking encouragement and a pathway to a happy and successful life will find much to consider. Quotes abound, and they always fit the subjects at hand and add important perspectives to the points being made. Carefully selected and integrated quotes come from men, women, and young people from all walks of life; from many times, places, and backgrounds; and of different ages, some famous and some unknown. They add balance to Weston's comments and information, conveying practical perspectives on caring for oneself, nurturing relationships, getting along with others, and making the best of circumstances. Weston is known for her previous outstanding self-help books, such as Girltalk: All the Stuff Your Sister Never Told You (HarperCollins, 1997). This book follows suit with a writing style to which teens-both boys and girls-can really relate, almost as if the author is in the room having a conversation with them. Other books use different approaches but have similar relevant content for teens, such as Annie Fox's Can You Relate? (Free Spirit, 1999) and Richard Carlson's Don't Sweat the Small Stuff for Teens (Hyperion, 2000). However, none use the technique of maneuvering numerous quotes as effectively as Weston does in this title.

More About the Author

Carol Weston writes for kids, teens, and grown-ups and has been the advice columnist at Girls' Life for 15 years. Newsweek calls her a "Teen Dear Abby," and Parenting says, "Carol Weston gets girls." The daughter of writers, Carol went to high school in Armonk (BHHS) and France (SYA). At Yale, she studied comp lit, graduating summa cum laude. In Madrid, Spain, she got an M.A. from Middlebury--and met her husband, playwright Rob Ackerman.

Her first book, GIRLTALK: All the Stuff Your Sister Never Told You (HarperCollins), has been translated into ten languages and in print since 1985. Now in a fully updated fourth edition, it's as sensible, encouraging, and "outstanding" (School Library Journal) as ever.

Carol loves being a guru for girls, but uh oh, she'd always meant to write fiction! Finally she gave herself some advice: Do it! In 2000, Knopf published The Diary of Melanie Martin, a funny novel about a traveling girl and her brother Matt the Brat. (Psst, their art teacher mom doesn't know that the kids' favorite museum game is Point Out the Naked People.)

What else? Carol and Rob live in Manhattan with two daughters and one cat. Her birthday is September 11, and she likes Boggle, Hearts, Bananagrams, skiing, walking, art museums, foreign films, dark chocolate, and good books. She thanks you for ordering her books and invites you to visit carolweston.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this book!, December 7, 2002

FOR TEENS ONLY is so good!... Whenever I get depressed or frustrated, I read a few pages and start feeling better. I guess that's because she seems like a real person (well, obviously she is) and because all the quotes seem to be talking right to me. My brother has been reading it too and he doesn't usually read books like this. But her advice make sense and isn't preachy. It's funny and inspiring. I recommend this book to all middle school and high school students. It REALLY explains everything, from how to tell if your crush likes you to when to use "it's" and "its"(which I now finally get)! And if you ever need a quote for a yearbook or paper, it has 580! FOR TEENS ONLY IS A GREAT BOOK!! FIVE STARS AT LEAST!...

5.0 out of 5 stars A real treasure trove!, December 7, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: For Teens Only: Quotes, Notes, & Advice You Can Use (Paperback)
I don't care what kind of advice you're looking for -- whether you're trying to fix a romance, a summer job, or a problem at school -- this book has got something helpful to say. Carol Weston herself is terrific -- practical and funny -- but the book also insludes quotes and advice from a lot of other people, too -- famous writers, artists, thinkers. It's a lot better than just hearing your best friend, for the tenth time, tell you the same old things. A definite recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal for Guys and Girls, March 14, 2005

I heard Carol Weston speak a few years ago and a father in the audience
asked, "Why don't you write a book for guys?" So it was great to realize that she
did it and I like this book as much as For Girls Only and Girltalk. It's got
her signature great advice and more quotes than ever.
