It's a very solid piece of equipment. Overall I'm glad that I purchased this as it does help with the pain in my lower back. There are some concerns:

1. Although it is lightweight, if you have trouble doing sit-ups you'll have trouble getting your ankles into the braces on this machine.

2. For me to get some tension and relief to my lower back I...

The price (around $100 - 110) seemed high, but when it arrived, I could see why: this is very well made and solidly built using thick aluminum and thick rubber pads where needed. The design and engineering reflect considerable thought and testing.

The stretcher works because you are pushing your feet away from your shoulders (the feet are held by anke grippers, and you push your feet away by pushing on long handles). Entirely manual, no electricity, and no inversion: just lie on the floor and push.

I've only used it for a few minutes, but it does what I hoped it would: lets me stretch my lower back. There's a lot of aching during parts of the stretch, but I did them as "reps", 10-15 seconds of stretch, then 30-60 seconds of rest. After a couple of reps, the ache was minimal and I could feel my back stretching.

One of my concerns was that the stretch would be in the ankles and knees. Not so. All of the stretch was in the lower back. A fringe benefit will be some muscle building in my arms and shoulders, by pushing on the handles.

The 5-star rating reflects the excellent design and construction of the device, and my preliminary use of it. In a few weeks, I'll update this, once there's been some time to see whether there is any lasting benefit.

5.0 out of 5 stars works on long term injury, September 15, 2008
This review is from: Teeter Hang Ups P3 Back Stretcher (Sports)
I got this after suffering from long term injury
and spending hundreds $ and painful days on ice
I used this a few times a month,my problem not
only was solved within 15 mins a day,but the
disc health has IMPROVED. mY friend used it,with his
lower back pinched nerve, and LOVED it.
I would say,its unbeatable for decompression of the
spine. I HAVE not gone to a chiropractor since.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny!, March 9, 2009
This review is from: Teeter Hang Ups P3 Back Stretcher (Sports)
I have had a bad back for over 25 years and been to chiropractors and even had motorized mechanical traction done on me. All those things have worked to greater and lesser degrees depending on how bad my back was at the time but it was always inconvenient to make appointments and expensive for each visit. This time when my back got really bad, I bought the Lynx. I am impressed with how well it is constructed, but even more so with how well it works. It provides as much stretch to my spine as the professional motorized traction machines I have been on in the past. After only a couple of uses, the pain in my lower back is greatly diminished and I can feel that my spine is being properly aligned. I plan on using this routinely to keep my back healthy. I only wish I had gotten one years ago!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lynx Back Stretcher - A life changer, October 29, 2009

Here's my two cents worth. I've had back problems and had worked with chiropractors for 5-6 years (50-75 visits, have 2 as friends). One vertebra in the center of my back is out of line and may never be right again. L4&5 are a mess too. Was told my bike riding and kayaking days were over. Tried looking at inversion machines, etc. but this stretcher was light, easy to store and portable. With it I was able to manually stretch out my spine gently easing the compression that caused most of my problems. It took about a week before I made any progress, but gradually my back started to loosen up and I could feel movement as I used the stretcher. Now I also rock it back and forth pushing down with one hand and then the other to free up my hips and a pinched nerve there. I use it about one a month now just to keep from getting a stiff back. There are no back problems any more and all for the price of a couple of chiropractor visits. I now can take long walks, ride my bike for miles with the wife and get out kayaking anytime I feel like it. If I notice any discomfort, I stretch out when I'm done and every thing is fine.

I've had friends try out the machine and two have purchased their own. One is a medical doctor who works as a physical therapist. She felt the traction effect the first time she tried it and said it made her back feel good. Go ahead and buy one. Go easy at first, apply gentle pressure, and don't be surprised if you don't feel anything at first. I gained all kinds of flexibility and lost my aches and pains. For $99 I got a large portion of my life back again.

5.0 out of 5 stars For those who don't like inversion., March 23, 2009

A long time ago I hurt my back working out.
I was squatting and my foot slipped out from underneath me.
Long story short.....17 years later I still suffer from back pain.
I used to have an inversion table but the feeling of hanging upside down usually made me feel woozy.
I saw the lynx on amazon and decided to give it a shot.
It works very well, you don't get quite as good of a stretch as an inversion table but considering I don't have to strap myself onto a table and swing upside down I'd call it a fair trade off.
All in all it's a sturdy and effective piece of equipment and worth the price I paid for it.
I recommend this for those who suffer from back pain.
It hasn't eliminated my pain but it has helped.
Just don't push down too hard on the handles, I did that and I felt a painful twinge on the right side of my back.
It went away within a few minutes and I've learned to be a little more gentle with the device.
Recommended.

I was laid up all summer with a ruptured disk in my lower back, and bought the Lynx to use as part of my rehabilitation effort. While the medical profession has varying opinions as to the effectiveness of spinal decompression/traction therapy, the Lynx provides the potential benefits of this therapy in a very compact, low cost unit. Construction quality is very good and the unit is easy to use. Setting the initial adjustments takes a little while but the unit includes an instructional DVD to simplify the process as much as possible.

The only word of caution is that you must have strong, healthy shoulders to use the unit effectively. Otherwise, the Lynx is a convenient and useful tool to include with any rehab or conditioning program.

5.0 out of 5 stars Here's the facts, August 7, 2010

OK, I'm 55, had lumbar disc bulge issues for 30 years. Had a major flare-up two months ago, left me screaming involuntarily (not like me at all!) and motionless - a cripple. Of course, I'd been through the whole range of treatments short of surgery (heard too many horror stories).
A friend swore he knew a chiropractor who was "not like all the others", so after his many pleadings with me, I finally went. Well, the cocky, arrogant _____ started doing exactly what all the others do, jumping and twisting and shoving in both directions. By the time It was over, I had the MOST DEBILITATING CASE OF SCIATICA running straight down my right leg. I couldn't stand, walk, roll over in bed, get up out of a chair, etc, etc without screaming out and collapsing to the floor. I went from real bad to devastatingly worse.
"Forget it" I said, to myself, "I'll study this thing through and through and devise my own treatment!" Well in studying many websites, tons of case studies, youtube videos, Amazon reviews, medical tests, etc, ONE THING WAS STRIKINGLY CONSISTENT: DECOMPRESSION THERAPY OF SOME SORT was needed. I called a local chiropractor (only because he was doing radio ads for some fancy decompression machine he had) who wanted, get this! $3500.00 for a 26 session decompression treatment program!!!
Thank God, I found the Lynx back stretcher for $99.00. I will tell you, between the Lynx, an invesion table (be careful with these), some very specialized stretching exercises, and walking (only when significant healing has occured), I HAVE MY LIFE BACK. Didn't happen overnight. Be patient, start slowly, you can easily overdo it - these machines are very effective! But after a couple of weeks (yes, stick to it for weeks - don't give up!) I will NEVER, EVER darken the door of another _______ chiropractor again!
Remember - DECOMPRESSION IS KING IN THIS BATTLE!!! Add to that, stretches and light walking. There you go! The Lynx is an EXCELLENT choice for decompression - well built, very portable and effective. I keep it right at my bedside, and I reach for it last thing at night, and first thing in the morning. Stretch a bit and I'm good to go. I do inversion at mid-day for 3-6 minutes. I'm very happy with this treatment!!!

It's a very solid piece of equipment. Overall I'm glad that I purchased this as it does help with the pain in my lower back. There are some concerns:

1. Although it is lightweight, if you have trouble doing sit-ups you'll have trouble getting your ankles into the braces on this machine.

2. For me to get some tension and relief to my lower back I have to press very hard with my arms using the handles on the device. I usually have to take several breaks because my arms give out before I really get any great relief on my back.

In conclusion, if you are not in relatively good condition with minor lower back pain I'm not sure this is the right choice for you. I had purchased this for when I'm not spending night at home and it should do the trick for me, but I'll be using my invert table if I want relief at home.

I bought this piece of equipment because the hangup machine was hurting my knees because of age. It will take a few minutes to adjust the length to your body, but follow the instructions and it works very well. Will stretch you lower back, but is easy on the knees. Is all metal, so will last a long time. Would buy this item again.

This is an excellent product. My chiropractor was doing disk decompression on a table--these treatments helped, but my hips hurt for several days after. I started using the Lynx (after talking to the chiropractor) and we discontinued the table treatments. The Lynx has really helped my back (along with other exercises and stretches). Easy to use and well made. I will use for years.
