At first I was somewhat frustrated with the madeup geographical names of places but this did not deter from the quality or storyline of the book which was an historical account of suspicious fires over many years and the much needed evidence gathered at each one which finally convicted firebug and murderer "Teflon Shelly." The book goes into the methodology in collecting this evidence which I found to be rather educational in its shirtsleeve explanation of how each of the suspicious fires was evaluated where it originated the propellent used to start the fire and its subsequently spread throughout the structure. The story is told in a conversational manner explaining all the personal frustrations that men working together experienced over the many years to obtain this long sought after conviction. It is an easy read as once you start reading it the pages turn quickly.

Great arson investigative review book, a must for all who have the job duties of investigator.
The book greatly details the process to evaluate evidence and make the case against Shelly for what she does and to back it up to put her away for arsons. The book also details how the abuse drove her to the breakIng point to do what she did .

The book is a must for every investigative library to read to better do their job. Teflon Shelly

My only problem with this purchase was that the book arrived in a box unwrapped and look new but had several hand prints from handling and my previous book purchases have all been wrapped and seemed untouched by previous hands . So 5 stars on the book and it's reading, but 2 stars on Amazons handling of the book.

This is a vivid, realistic account of how a skilled fire investigator persisted for more than forty years and finally succeeded in tracking down a woman responsible for the deaths of seven children, three of them her own. I learned a lot about about what firemen do and how fire investigators work. The book was also very informative about the difficulties of gathering facts for a jury and the kinds of evidence needed to bring a police conviction of arson.

Excellent book based on a true but very sad story - with many twists and turns. Remarkable that the author and his partner in crime were tenacious enough to stick with this case for so long. Also remarkable was the cooperation that existed across the state to bring this case to a close. Great read - I found it very difficult to put down - learned alot about fire investigation. Reminded me of a family saying..."the devil is in the details" . I appreciated the way the author chose to repeat certain "details" throughout the book. I see this as a movie - great sequel to Backdraft! Kathy Bates should play the role of Shelly.
