I purchased this item for my 2-1/2 year old daughter who loves horses. She was ecstatic when she saw it. I thought about purchasing a Radio Flyer Spring horse for her but after looking at them. I took a gamble that I would like this one being covered in cloth vs the plastic and it paid off 100 fold. The horse comes in a box just big enough to pack all the items. I would say its as frustration free as could be. The box also had an exterior cardboard sleeve protecting it from damage in shipping. I received the item in two days with free shipping. Props to Fed-EX and Amazon for this. I had it put together in less than 20 minutes by myself. Instructions are clear and easy to follow and it really dosen't require much assembly. I Was really amazed at how well everything about this item is thought out. From the way it was packaged to the very small amount of assembly for the end user. The instructions say it will even hold 115 pounds which should be well over the age range of a toy like this. It has three push buttons on its ears. One sings a song which my daughter believes horsey can only ride while he is singing the other makes him talk or neigh and gallop. The item also has a small pouch with a brush in it. My daughter loves to brush the horse and take care of him. As for riding the springs are stiff but for good reason imo to help prevent the bottoming out or flipping over I remember from my radio flyer as a kid. Also a couple protection items I noticed the springs have a secondary hook you add on in case a hook breaks on a spring and they also have a strap to prevent the springs being over stretched. Again this is a well thought out product that I Am sure my kids will love for years.
Make sure when you get the horse that you open his mane and adjust his sound box from try me to high or low sound. This will then turn on his galloping when they ride and his head, ears and tail will move along with his mouth. I didn't realize this till day two when I wanted to see if I could lower the volume. When I switched to the low volume option it started sounding like it was shorting out. I Replaced the cheap Chinese batteries 4xAA with some new duracells and this guy really came to life. Now its not just talking and mouth moving the tail moves and head and ears move. My kids LOVE THIS THING! Only improvement/Concern I see would be to address how to get the spring covers to stay tight against the stirrups and horse. This would require some type of piece with a lip on it I would imagine so it would stay tight. Really not an issue just keep an eye on it to protect little hands. Again you can't go wrong with the Legend it is AWESOME! EDIT---Update August 2011---- Legend is almost 2 years old now and both my kids still love him. My daughter will still ride him and my 2-1/2 year old son love to ride him and has been almost daily since he was about 1-1/2 and big enough to climb on him. Legend was a great purchase and is still holding up great to daily use by to loving kids.

My Grandson loved this horse. I also purchased the Lucky horse. I noticed that many of the reviewers who did not have a 5 star review of Lucky did not understand where the battery pack is located. I wrote another review on the Lucky Horse saying it is underneath but I failed to tell you underneath what. I appologize for this oversight. The battery pack is located underneath the mane on the horses neck. If you use 3 batteries you will not get the full affect of the horse so 4 AA batteries are required. If your horse doesn't make a sound upon arrival you must install the batteries. Neither of our horses came with the batteries even though it said the batteries were included. In putting the horse together, you must carefully follow the instructions. I hope this helped to clarify where the batteries are located in the horse. Also if you dont want the horse making a sound everytime it is bumped, you can put it on the middle switch setting and it will only make the noises if the ears are pressed.

We thought that our first grandson might be a little young (16 months)for a hobby horse but since our boys both started bustin' broncs at an early age we thought we'd find out. What a wonderful idea it has turned out to be. We couldn't wait for Christmas so he was riding in early December. I thought I'd wait to see how Legend held up for a few weeks before writing a review. Everything worked perfect from the day we received him. Assembly was a breeze (it took me less than half an hour). We installed the batteries and Legend awoke. Our baby knows which ear to press to get the sound he wants and he just loves the moving ears and tail. The curry comb is just a perfect little attachment to allow the child to bond with his horse. We are very impressed with the quality and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone that would love to watch their child's eyes sparkle when they climb into the saddle and start riding.
Update, December 30th, 2008. Our horse is still going strong!! He doesn't appear to notice the few extra lbs. our boy's put on or how much harder he rides. We're still on the same batteries although they're starting to get a little weak. The cowboy outfit we bought our grandson this Christmas really livens things up.

We have always bought the traditional rocking horse for our kids, but this one is the best ! Our grandson loves to brush the horse and sings along with the little song. He is not even two yrs. old yet and he climbs up himself and starts rocking away...our 8 yr. old grandson has fun on it too.
Will recommend it highly !

I purchased this for my 2 y.o. son for Christmas, and he loves it! I was worried about him being able to get on and off it himself, but he figured it out quickly. The horse itself is very cute, and the soft coat makes it cuddly. Because I have a boy, I like that the horse is a boy - has a male voice which is nice. The noises are great, and my son immediately figured out how to squeeze the ears to either play the song or get the noises. The tail, ears, mouth and head move depending on which function he activates.I'm glad I chose this horse instead of the Radio Flyer rocking horse - their horse is hard plastic, and looked hard, shiny, and had a kind of scary look about it! This horse is soft, furry and inviting. I also like that it doesn't rock super easily - my son has to put some effort into making it move, which I like. I have seen too many rocking horses where I fear that the child will catapult themselves into the air. Here are the negatives to the horse: This is not a toy to put together by yourself. I managed to do it by myself, out of sheer determination, and because it was Christmas Eve, and it HAD to be ready for the big morning. The springs are tough to attach, especially the last one. It took a a lot of blue language and finally a plea to God for me to get them attached! So, save the stress and get an assistant. The box/shipping: If you are buying this for a gift/surprise, have it sent to someone else's house. When we came home to find the box on our porch, you could clearly see pictures of the rocking horse, read the name of the horse, etc. Luckily, my son is young and he didn't notice. An older child will.. But, again, he loves loves loves this horse, and it is one of the best gifts I have ever gotten him. Just be prepared to hear "I'm a little pony, clippety clop, clippety clop......" A LOT!! *****UPDATE: DECEMBER 2011******** "Legend" is still going strong, and still looks like new. My son, now 4, still loves to ride, as do all of his friends. This is a wonderful rocking horse - can't say enough good things about it! It is durable, safe and loads of fun.

Bought Legend for my 14 month old grandson for Christmas.I was very impressed with the quality of the product. Legend is nothing like the "old style" spring horse that I bought my children. He is soft and huggable, and very interactive. I have already ordered a second to keep at the grandparents house!

I bought this spring horse for my granddaughter who is 2 1/2 years old. I read the reviews and I figured it was worth the money. Being a woman and by myself, it only took me 45 minutes to 1 hour to put the horse together. The springs were the only items that needed someone real strong and two people to put on. To push and pull at the same time was hard. A friend helped me pull and push the spirngs and it took us less than 5 minutes. I replaced the batteries which came with it with new batteries (4) as recommended and it worked like a gem. It was easy to replace the batteries in the battery pack under the mane. There are two buttons on one ear to talk and hee haw and nay and one button on the other ear to sing a happy pony song. When my granddaughter opened the present, she was really excited. The horse talks, ears move, tail swishes. She got on it and in no time was riding and singing with the pony. She learned quickly the buttons on the ears and was using them immediatley. She even started to brush the pony with the brush that comes with it. The only problem is every once and a while for no reason, you hear the pony's gallop. It seems to start all by itself. I placed the sound on the loudest voice and it does not seem that loud to annoy you. I would recommend this item to friends and family or anyone who was interested in buying one. Shipment was fast, and item was in perfect condition. The pony is soft to the touch and padded to ride. Let's hope the pony lasts as long as the plastic and wood one's they used to make.

My 21 month old loves to get on this horse and sit & bounce a little. the only reason I rated it lower was because the springs aren't as bouncy as the old Wonder Horses were. They seem awfully tight. I thought maybe it was his low weight (26 lbs.) since it goes up to 65 lbs., but we had someone come over who weighs about 60 lbs and she wasn't able to get it to bounce a whole lot more either. It's just not as fun as the old ones, but probably way safer so that is probably actually a good thing (the Wonder horses bounced & rocked so easily that you could flip over the top!). The fact that it is soft makes it more appealing though -he likes to run his hands over the fur and brush him every now and then. Also the sounds & song help entertain him. It would take way too much energy for him to ride it very long, as it is hard for him to get it to move a lot so he has short (30 seconds maybe) spurts, but he enjoys it & gets on it quite often, which I think is part of the fun for him (the getting on & off). All in all, I think it is a good purchase.
