"Cocoa Brovaz Is Dead......Murdered By Smif N' Wessun" (4 Stars),

This review is from: Tek N Steele: Reloaded (Audio CD)
Boy, it's good to see the BCC on the come up again. Tek & Steele finally drop the third installment in the BCC triple threat, Smif N' Wessun: Reloaded. At first listen, I can tell you that it doesn't sound like their two previous albums. The beats aren't as grimy as their old stuff. I think the variety in production is a good look. It allows the album to shift gears and keeps it from being boring. Production is handled by Roc Raida, Da Beatminerz, Moss, Coptic, Khrysis, and a few others. Also, I gotta say that it's good to hear Rockness Monsta back on the mic with the other BCC emcees. He's been M.I.A. for a minute and now I'm looking for a Heltah Skeltah album to drop (lord knows they're long overdue). Back to Tek & Steele though. The album is laced with bangers and it would seem that they both have stepped their lyrical game up. Tracks like "My Timbz Do Work" feat. Heltah Skeltah and "Get Back" feat. Boot Camp Clik are vintage Smif N' Wessun tracks. But when they're backed by that hardocre production on tracks like "Toolz Of The Trade" and "U Undastand Me", that's when they really start to shine. "Sick 'Em Son" is another banger, the beat is supplied by the underrated Khrysis of the Justus League. For the most part, the album is high quality. Guests include Heltah Skeltah, Talib Kweli, Starang Wondah, Buckshot, BCC, and Tony Touch
There are two or three songs that I'd label as "skip material". They aren't wack, but I have to be in the mood to hear tracks like "A Hustler's Prayer", "Here I Stand (The Streets Been Good To Me)", and "Gun Rap". Other than that though, the rest of the album flows with no problem at all. Despite two or three forgettable tracks, Smif N' Wessun: Reloaded is definitely worth checking out. It's not on the level of Chemistry (Buckshot & 9th Wonder), but it's probably just as good as Monkey Barz (Sean Price). The Boot Camp Clik is back y'all, and the timing couldn't be better. I reccomend picking this up as well as picking up the other two triple threat LPs. The BCC deserves the support. Standout Tracks: City Of Godz (Ciudad De Dios) feat. Buckshot, Toolz Of The Trade, We Came Up (Crystal Stair) feat. Talib Kweli, My Timbz Do Work feat. Heltah Skeltah, Get Back feat. The Boot Camp Clik, War (My Favorite), Warriorz Song (Gangbang) feat. Dead Prez, Sick 'Em Son, PNC Boyz, and Reloaded

"Da Shinin" is in my top 3 hip hop albums ever. Since then, Smif n Wessun haven't come anywhere near matching that album. Though "Reloaded" is still a step below "Da Shinin", it's possibly the best Duckdown release since. The BCC has always had some of the tightest production in the buisiness, but this album takes it to a new level. This album is filled with classic Boot Camp, Timb boot stompin, beats. This album brings me right back to the mid nineties, banging "Enta Da Stage" and "Da Shinin". That's a place the Boot Camp Clik hasn't taken me back to in a long time.

The bcc might have fallen off a few years ago, however over the last few years, they have really came back strong. It is extremely unfortunate, that these are the ones not getting any attention. Unlike all of these other cheeseballs that disappear and return with garbage, you can always expect a solid album out of any of the bcc camp. Overall, the albums production is great, lyrics are always on point, just the same smiff n wesson, stuck in the messed up world of hip hop 05, intead of the early 90s. If your looking for something that you can drive in get bent in, do anything to, get this. If you are craving some hip hop music at its finest, tired of listening to the "real hip hop" (common, kanye, and whoever) that is so media fabricated, grab this one.. peace

Smif N Wesson will never loose their talent. I guess do to the fact of their names they had issues and it was hard for them to come out with a cd they jus keep comin hard. They kept their style but up to date. Their stuff goes with the year they are in. They kept it gangsta without using corny raps wit horrible beats. HIP HOP HEAD must have is what this cd should be categorized as.....

It's a shame that an album of this quality failed to receive the attention and promotion that it deserves. Tek and Steele are one of the greatest rap duos of all time. Their tag-team style is simply music. This is album is New York hip-hop in its purist form. Unlike many upper-east coast MC's who fake southern accents to sell records and gain mass appeal; Tek and Steele remain true to their roots and provide a complete album of street music. There is nothing weak on this disc from front to finish. Although it doesn't quite match the potency of their classic debut Da' Shinin', they present an album that is superior in quality than the better selling nonsense that is being passed off as hip-hop these days. All though this is not a classic album per se, I still give it five stars due to the superior lyrical quality and strong beats.

Smif N Wessun - Tek N Steele: Reloaded,
This review is from: Tek N Steele: Reloaded (Audio CD)
Smif N Wessun return with "Tek N Steele: Reloaded" (2005) a solid fifteen track release. The duo start the album off strong on the title track "Reloaded". First real standout for me is "Gunn Rap", feeling Tek and Steele lyrics and the beat to this cut. "Toolz of the Trade" is a good track, which slowly builds up in a tempo. The duo shine again while repping themselves on "War" a thugged out track which samples Mobb Deep's "Survival of the Fittest". The next track is my favorite, Smif N Wessun team up with Dead Prez for a memorable collaboration "Warriors Heart" (Gangbang). I would like to see more collaborations between these two groups in the future. Tek and Steele bring another unique track with "City Of Gods" (Cuidad de Dios) feat. Buckshot. Starang Wondah and Tony Touch drop in for "U Undastand Me", feeling Da Beatminerz production on this cut. "PNC Boyz" is dedicated to an incarcerated homeboy, while the closer "We Came Up" (Crystal Stair) feat. Talib Kweli closes the album off well. I recommend this release to fans of the group. 3.5.

this is one of the best releases of the year,

This review is from: Tek N Steele: Reloaded (Audio CD)
in a year when hip hop has been lacking this is a shining star (along with Common, Kanye, little brother, and the game).
Since Da Shining Smif N Wessun has been in and out of the scene making random 12 inches and appearances. and after being signed to rawkus and not releasing an album many fans were unsure if they would ever come back. and they did. this album has superb production that far outshines most of the beats on Chemistry. the beats are far more interesting than some of the beats 9th wonder did for chemistry. If you like a hard hitting album with street worthy lyrics than this is def the album for you.
