4.0 out of 5 stars 3D game, simple play control, 9 fighters, no movies, secrets
This game is a 3D fighting game based around Tekken 3, with 9 playable fighters (Xiaoyu, Yoshimitsu, Nina, Law, Gun Jack, Hwoarang, Paul, King and Jin). With the Playstation version of this fighting game, for each character you beat the game with, it will play a movie and you will earn a new playable fighter, however, it is not like this in the Gameboy Advance version...

3.0 out of 5 stars Low Tech-Ken
I've learned firsthand that you've ever bought a GBA port of a fighting game, you'd get what you paid for. With that in mind, I discovered and snatched a copy of "Tekken Advance." Of course it pales in comparsion to console versions because of the limited hardware, but you get the gist of what they're like if you don't own them already.

While the GBA's...

4.0 out of 5 stars 3D game, simple play control, 9 fighters, no movies, secrets, February 26, 2002
This review is from: Tekken (Video Game)
This game is a 3D fighting game based around Tekken 3, with 9 playable fighters (Xiaoyu, Yoshimitsu, Nina, Law, Gun Jack, Hwoarang, Paul, King and Jin). With the Playstation version of this fighting game, for each character you beat the game with, it will play a movie and you will earn a new playable fighter, however, it is not like this in the Gameboy Advance version. When you beat the game, the credits roll and that is it, you do not get any specialized ending nor an extra playable fighter. Also, Heihachi is the leader of the game, and not Ogre like in Tekken 3 (Heihachi may also be unlocked if you beat the game with all 9 fighters). This is a true 3D fighting game, unlike Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat games, with Tekken Advance the camera will zoom in and out of the battle as you fight, also the fighter can move to a different angle to avoid attacks. The buttons are very simple, having only a kick button (A), a punch button (B) and a "close attack" button (R). With Tekken the "close attack" would usually grapple your opponent and do a devastating move, with Tekken Advance it performs a specific combo, like a few punches or kicks. Another great thing about this game are the modes of play, such as arcade, verses battle (for two players), time attack, survival, practice, and even an incredible tag battle mode, where you select 3 fighters, then the computer will pit you against 3 random opponents. You can even tag out by pressing select to your different partners! The game even keeps track of the energy. All this being said, the game has great graphics, sound a unique 3D feel, but not enough players or diversity to hold your interest more than a few months.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great on the run, also around the house, April 1, 2002

This review is from: Tekken (Video Game)
'Tekken Advance' is a great (and one of the best) handheld fighting games around. The controls are simple and the moves are awesome. My favorite character is Hwoarang because of his kicking combonations and special attacks. Anyway, if you are looking for a good fighting game on GBA and you have already tried the 'Street Fighter' series, 'Tekken Advance' is a great choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars TEKKEN for ADVANCE!!, June 17, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Tekken (Video Game)
Don't let some bad review trick you.I've known Tekken since it first came out on playstation.I have all of the Tekken games except Tekken Tag because I don't own a PS2.I have Gamecube,Genisus,PSOne,Gameboy Color, and GBA. The graphics on this game are almost as good as Tekken1 for playstation. How do I know?Because I got it for my birthday about 4 months ago.I beat it with Hworang,he rules,I get perfects almost every time,I never die with him either.Tekken Advance is just like Tekken3 but handheld and less characters.Another thing you can use the GBA cable link and fight a friend, you can invite a bunch of friends over and have a Tekken Tournament!

5.0 out of 5 stars I HAVE played it, January 15, 2002

A reviewer said "it's not even out yet". Maybe not in America, but I just got back from Singapore (my home country) and played the game there in the beginning of January. It is out, and it is a great game. The graphics are really good even on the small screen, and though having only two regular buttons is limited, it can be overlooked. Come on, this is an affordable portable system! Tekken is a must have if you like this style of game (Tekken series, Virtua Fighter series, etc). The only reason I didn't buy it is that I spent all my money on Golden Sun, Tony Hawk 2, and Street Fighter before I saw it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great portable Tekken game.., February 1, 2002
This review is from: Tekken (Video Game)
Yes, you basically only have three attack buttons. B for kick, a for punch, and R1 for throws so you can imagine that you won't be able to pull off as many combos in the arcade. But despite that it's amazing how many of the regular characters' moves are actually in the game. You can still do cheapo air combos, play the hit and run game, or just tap your opponent constantly to annoy him. Characters included by default are Paul, Nina, Yoshimitsu, Jin, Hwoarang, King, Xiaoyu, Law, and Gun Jack with Heihachi as a boss. Graphics wise, it's pretty good although you can expect it to be pixelatted. Little worse looking than the original Tekken for PS1. You'l also notice the game feels a bit more sluggish than the PS2 or arcade versions of Tekken. Takes some getting used to but you'll probably eventually ignore this. It definitely doesn't have that smooth play feel like Tony Hawk. Fun factor for this game? Definitely a good port game for the Tekken player who's got time before finals or long waits at airports. The average player or Tekken haters probably might not like the game from the average/pixellated graphics or sluggish feeling controls at first. Still though, I loved the game being the Tekken fan that I am and it's nice to see my fav characters like Jin and Xiaoyu in a portable system. I just gotta wonder why in the world they included Gun Jack instead of Eddie Gordo? He'd have been a better choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars A pretty good game, January 8, 2003
This review is from: Tekken (Video Game)
Well, it doesn't really compare to the other Tekken games, although, it is for GBA.... Nice fighting action, cool combos, a little harder to do the moves though. Graphics arn't bad, but you can hardly see the guy's faces. As far as I can tell, you can only get one secret character. Overall it's a alright game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tekken For Game Boy Advanced?, February 7, 2002

This game is probaly one the better games on GBA. I reckomend you try this game before you decide to not get it. Though you only have two buttons and two more on the side, you still have the movement buttons and great combos! Yes, there are only nine characters, (and one little surprise at the end:) but there all very fun to use. Each player has his/hers own attacks. They have punches, kicks, throws, and those fun arial attacks. Look at other games like Jimmie Nuetron or Sponge Bob Sguare Pants. Now im not saying Tekken is the best game, but it is surely up there with Golden Sun and Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2. Before you spit at it, you try it out.

Tekken is probaly 1 of the best games for GBA. With many charecters, this fighting game has superb grahics and some knock out replays in slow-mo. As a gamer, I have seen a lot of good games, but Tekken one one of the best games I ever played. With people and even a creature of steel have jaw dropping combos and attacks. Each person and creature have there own experences. Like the chinese fighters are fast, aggresive, and use karati, judo, and tiqando moves. This is a great choise of about 1,000 games. BUY IT
