I'm a beginner to metal detecting and had no trouble learning and using this metal detector. Picked this one over others because it's overall rating and better depth detection. So far I've found coins, toy cars, and possibly a meteorite in my own yard. The cars were made in USA and Japan. Pre 60's and 70's respectively. Having fun with it and can;t wait till the weather gets better so I can search more. I recommend this detector for anyone interested in metal detecting.

I am relatively new to this hobby. After reading some reviews on different metal detectors, I selected this model. So far I am very happy with it. It has surprisingly good depth and accuracy, especially for the price. The two screws which hold the display unit to the rod did come lose after a couple of times going out but they were easily tightened. I also like that it has volume control since I do not like wearing headphones all the time. Operating the unit's display is intuitive - I figured it out in less than five minutes. If you are also starting out with this hobby, be sure to purchase a good pin-pointer detector like the Garrett Pro-Pointer or you will spend too much time digging rather than detecting. The cheap pointers are only of marginal help since they literally have to touch the metal item before they will squawk. Happy Hunting.

Very good metal detector for the price. Would definitely recommend if you don't have a lot of money to spend.

My wife and I are relatively new to this hobby. We took a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV Metal Detector and a Teknetics Alpha to the beach to see if we could find anything. Before we left we tested each detector to determine if they would pick up coins and gold, and if they could be set to avoid picking up bottle caps and pull tabs made of aluminum. We were able to do that with the Bounty Hunter. The Teknetics displays a list of items at the bottom of the screen: iron, foil, nickels, aluminum, zinc, dimes, quarters, and half dollars. (Note there is not one for gold.) There is an indicator which highlights which of those items is being detected. The Teknetics has a discriminate feature in the menu system where you can turn off the items that you do not want to detect, like aluminum. There are two problems with the Teknetics discrimination features. First, this discrimination function is frequently not entirely accurate as the highlight jumps from item to item. The second problem is that after turning off the foil and aluminum items, the detector would not pick up a gold ring in our test. That was a big disappointment with the Alpha. We also had to turn down the sensitivity on the Teknetics to the very lowest level or it would just beep all the time, even when the coil was several feet off the ground.

We had a nice morning at the beach. We found a gold and silver necklace. Unfortunately it was plastic Mardi Gras beads. Maybe next time.
