First time towing,

It seems to be a good controller. I installed it to tow a 4500 lb camper with my 09 GMC Acadia (that's right at the tow limit).My experience could probably be applied to most brake-controllers. *** Take the time to tune the controller. I had the 'power' set slightly high, which worked great for light braking. (The trailer brakes did most of the work.) However, in a situation where I needed to stop quickly, the trailer brakes locked up. Lucky everyone/everything was OK. I will say, this incident: - scared us, - scared folks in traffic around us, and - gave me an appreciation for taking the time to tune my brake-controller for each heavy (at tow limit) load that I am towing

This controller worked as expected, though it is a basic unit. It was not difficult to install, but I was disappointed that it did not come with a pigtail connector to connect to the end-connector attached to the unit. I had to cut off the end-connector since my vehicle is older than 2005 and does not have a factory wired connector that matches.My biggest issue with this device was the size. It is huge. I have mid-size truck and I could not find anywhere under the dash that I could put it and not be in the way of my feet when driving or exiting the vehicle. I had to put it in a pocket in the center console that is presumably for coins, by drilling a hole in the back for the wiring. The unit is about 1.5inches thick and the mounting bracket adds at least another 0.25inches. Cut off a 6inch piece of 2x4 lumber and figure out where you can fit it under your dash before buying this. Others controllers are not allot smaller, but I believe this is one of the largest.
