Excellent for eliminating brake shudder on cyclocross bike,

I wish I had bought these months ago. I put one set on the front of my cross bike and since then I have had amazing stopping power with absolutely no brake shudder or brake chatter.
I've heard complaints that springs weren't very strong, but they were plenty strong enough for my bike and balance easily so that they've never had to be adjusted since initially set. If you're sick of constantly fiddling with your cantilever brakes, these are a most excellent option.

Adjustable noodle is a mandatory purchase. No good for mud.,

Works well with old style Shimano 105 levers (5600) on my cyclocross bike and on my tandem with older Dia-Compe road bike 'aero' levers once I got adjustable noodles and changed the pads. The major issue is that to get good brake feel the wheels must be perfectly true and the brakes adjusted for almost no clearance. So these brakes are great cyclocross brakes for areas that have mostly dry smooth courses. The big catch is that once they're adjusted that close you won't be able to remove the noodle from the straddle to release the wheel without deflating it. IMO, adjustable noodles, Origin8 V-Brake Barrel Adjuster Noodle - 90-degree, are absolutely required for use with previous generation STI levers and other levers that pull the same amount of cable and lack a quick release function at the lever. The new generation Shimano levers (shifter cables under the bar wrap) might do better because they have a different cable pull that I suspect would work better with these brakes and avoid the noodle release problem. Campy levers and many brake only levers that have a quick release would probably also work fine without the adjustable noodles but would be difficult to adjust as the sweet spot for good braking performance is tiny. Once I had the noodle issue sorted out I was very happy with the braking power of these brakes when used with Cool Stop dual compound pads, Kool Stop Dura 2 Dual Compound Insert. The stock pads that come with them are good stoppers but a bit grabby and unpredictable. Switching to the Kool Stop pads helped make the modulation much more predictable which is very important for cyclocross. For my tandem, I had to switch the pad holders to the lower profile Kool Stop pad holders, Kool Stop Cross Dura 2 Threaded Set Triple Compound Pad, as the post mounts of the tandem seem to be too close to the rim to work with these with the included stock holders as the stock holders could not be adjusted to hold the pads flat to the rim (not a fault of these brakes just a peculiarity of that bike). I don't recommend these as a novice friendly install. They may be easy on many bikes but setting them up well is tricky if your bike is a bit odd.
