Underestemated music of great jazz importance,
This review is from: Tele-Romeo (Audio CD)
K3 from Belgium is internationaly known in Holland and Belgium for their contribution to the musical development of the youngest children, most of them being girls. They sing stuff like: grandma's on top, yeke yeke yeh, teleromeo etc. As you can see; not of great filosofical importance, but that's because their audience is about 5 or 6 years old. What I'd like to say, is that K3 should also be recognised as a true jazz-renewing girlband. I've got a some important reasons for that. 1. They do things that have never been done in jazz, for instance; skip all improvisation. 2. They use a lot of modern soundeffects, and as you may know, that's very normal in some more up-to-date jazz-combinations, like Bugge Wesseltoft and Erik Truffaz. 3. They sing a lot, but they do it in a threesome, so that's original (I cannot think of a jazzband using lots of background vocals)and traditional (Ella Fitzgerald used to sing to). 4. They use a lot of international music and put it in a melting pot we can also taste when we visit jazzfestivals around the world.
That's why I believe K3 should be on the main stage of the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam next year, just like Macy Gray! And for all you daddies like me. They look great on stage to!!!
