I bought this Auto-Focus teleConverter to replace an old manual one I had so that the Auto-focus on my expensive Pentax AF 18-250mm lens would have more functionality when I needed a converter. First I should mention that I need to spend more time working with it, but here is my initial experience after a few sessions:

I have had some difficulty getting the Auto-focus to "lock" onto the object as it normally would when I use just the original lens. The focus will go past the subject to out of focus and then return, sometimes not stopping or "locking" onto what I want to focus on. Maybe I need to experiment more with my camera settings, but I am unsure. With the teleConverter, the motorised function is decidedly slower than with the zoom lens alone function. Aperture control remains functional whereas it is non-existent with my manual version teleConverter. So that's a plus. In frustration, I have sometimes had to switch the camera's auto-focus off and go to manual when critical focus becomes a problem with my subject. Unless I overcome the sluggishness and focus lock problem, this may not be ideal for shots that have active subjects eg sports and fast moving objects.

Clarity is excellent and relatively uncompromised, especially in bright daylight shooting. I'd say I got my $50 worth. TeleConverters are really a compromise to having the more expensive long focal length lenses. But work well enough if you are on a budget and don't really want to have to lug around an extra 500mm or larger lens when you are out on a field trip.
