Rampal playing Telemann's best,
By Tarin (McLean, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Telemann: 12 Fantasies for Solo Flute (Audio CD)
Jean-Pierre Rampal is at his best in this album. Each Telemann fantasie is played with infallible skill by Rampal from the racing vivace to the placid grave. Rampal brings each of Telemann's fantasies alive like a breathing flower. This is the epitome of music to be played over and over on cd.

I have spent years enjoying this -- incredible, light, dynamic -- if you love flute music, you'll be extremely pleased with this album. Hunting out a new copy for my daughter who now plays the flute, too.

Telemann 12 Fantasias - Rampal,

Was for many years the great living flautist on the planet, he is now succeeded by Galway and Emmanual Pahud, this recording is something every flautist should own as a standard of playing to be aimed for, like Turek and the Bach preludes and fugues. His tone is unbelievable, perhaps helped by the most famous flute on the planet, where has that gone, and his dynamic range allows the music to emerge from the notes, like every great musician he is merely a cypher for the composers intentions.
