5.0 out of 5 stars being ignored but good composition, October 18, 2007
This review is from: Telemann: Concertos for Viola da Gamba [Hybrid SACD] [Germany] (Audio CD)
When I pick up this one at first, I am not sure if it's a good choice, because I seldom heared Telemann, (even he was famous than Bach in his ages); besides, I didn't know clear the viola da gamba if it's worth paying to collect.(I never know other versions); and one more thing is I didn't know Perl.(Most of my collection to viola are Savall's.
However, I must say I am so lucky not to being disappointed in this trying, in fact, I satisfy its all performance, whatever Perl's show, or Telemann's melody.
It's succeed to telemann's music style, easygoing to touch. which is different with Bach's violoncello music. They are better nature attracting to enjoy, and get involved in music automatically without any listenning pressure to feel happiness.
I should recommand it because it's full above my expectation, and open my another vision.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best viola da gamba recordings ever made -- and with a fantastic Baroque orchestra, May 21, 2009
This review is from: Telemann: Concertos for Viola da Gamba [Hybrid SACD] [Germany] (Audio CD)
I just wrote a long review of this CD, but it seems that I exceeded an hour in revising and refining it, and Amazon suddenly cut me off and destroyed every word. Very frustrating!! A whole evening lost! I wanted to say that this is an unforgettably great recording, which I discovered on sale by Sony Classics when I heard the opening performance at the Mediterranean Arts Festival in Hong Kong in October 2007 -- "The Italian Feast", by the Balthasar Neumann Choir and Ensemble from Germany, Artistic Director Thomas Hengelbrock. Hille Perl was the only-lightly-masked performer in the centre in the superb period-instrument ensemble from Germany that was backing a stage performance inspired by 17th century Venetian mask carnivals. An unforgettable performance, but as I result I discovered a musician who is even more unforgettable, and whom I can listen to any time I want to on CD. One of the reasons this Telemann recording is so fine is that Perl is supported by the incomparably consummate Freiburger Barockorchester, certainly one of the best period-instrument Baroque ensembles. If there are any more Mediterranean Arts Festivals anywhere in the world featuring Hille Perl, I will not ask the price of the air ticket. Life is too short. If I write any more words here Amazon might dissolve my review, so I will have to end here. The rest is up to you to discover when you start listening to this recording, which is certainly in a class by itself. [...]
