This book follows Design Basics in Telemark Rosemaling Volume 1 in continuing to discuss painting and design in the Telemark style of Norwegian Rosemaling. This book moves beyond the basics of strokework and teaches the new rosemaler how to paint on many different types of surfaces. The book has 12 pages of color photos of the different pieces which have patterns and instructions in the book. Both oil and acrylic media are used in the paintings in this book.
I am the author of eight books on Swedish and Norwegian Folk Art...painting primarily on wood and traditional objects made from wood such as plates, bowls, trunks, boxes and other handmade wooden pieces.
My books are written for the beginner to intermediate painter who would like to learn how to do the traditional Swedish and Norwegian painting known as rosemaling or kurbits painting.
I spend lots of time doing research on the old painting from 1700 through the 1900's in Sweden and Norway. The type of paint and brushes they used, the various designs they created and all the history pertaining to that style and type of painting. I am very interested in the colors and types of background paint that was used in the early 19th and 20th centuries and how to emulate it with the paint that we have available today.
I have also written a book with Sigmund Aarseth, called "Aarseth's Rosemaling Design which was written in 2001 and have editted several of his books, namely "Painted Rooms", a book about the rosemaled and decoratively painted interiors that Sigmund has painted; and "Sigmund Aarseth: Norway Painted in Light and Color" which is a book about his landscape painting.
