5.0 out of 5 stars Crüxshadows classic...
This CD is phenominally ground- breaking, what I consider to be the perfect example of singer Rogue's amazing story-telling talent. With old legends, inner battles, and gripping lyrics, this album is a necessity! With "Marilyn My Bitterness" for anyone who's ever loved and lost, as well as "Monsters", a song which I cannot resist the urge to dance...

2.0 out of 5 stars overrted and overplayed!
When the DJs at goth clubs first started playing "Marilyn my Bitterness" and "Monsters" I thought that even though the vocalist has a pretty damn annoying voice, the songs aren't bad. But after hearing them constantly at every goth party over and over again I got so sick of them! :o/ I borrowed this CD from a friend out of curiocity and I thought...

With old legends, inner battles, and gripping lyrics, this album is a necessity! With "Marilyn My Bitterness" for anyone who's ever loved and lost, as well as "Monsters", a song which I cannot resist the urge to dance to, although I have heard it hundreds of times! It is hard for me to imagine anyone who is into goth/darkwave-type music not adoring this album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Easily lovable!, October 10, 2002

It's hard not to fall in love with the beautiful vocals of the lead singer Rogue... but beyond mere vocal talent it the amazing storytelling ability the group has. Through their music you become a part of what they have to say to the world.
There are a lot of great stories to be told on this cd, but more importantly this cd is easily my favorite because of the great mix of soft ballads and great club tunes. Clerestory was the first song I fell in love with and I quickly progressed through each of their albums! If your a fan of darkwave, goth, or just plain love a great band check them out.
P.s. DON'T PASS UP A CHANCE TO SEE THEM LIVE!!!!! I have seen people who weren't that thrilled with their music fall in love with the band because of their wonderful stage presence. Rogue is a great guy as well. Very talkative and very generous. Definately see them live if at all possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dream-like quality, September 9, 2001

This is by far one of the best musical creations I have yet to hear. There is a dream-like quality the Cruxshadows seem to have captured. Turn off the light, close your eyes, and press play and listen to Telementry of a Fallen Angel from the brief introduction of Descension somber Walk away to Marilyn, My Bitterness (which will make you want to belt out the lyrics along with Rogue) and let their music take over your soul. I bought this album without knowing who the Cruxshadows were or what they sounded like, the quote "now I wont die if you walk away, but I may not live" from thier song "Walk Away" and a couple other quotes inegued me to buy this album and 3 CD's a few trubute albums later I have not been disapointed. Also, on a side note, if you are one of those people who love 80's music still, you will also love Telementry of a Fallen Angel. And all their songs sound just as good live. This will be the best CD you will buy for a long time.

This disc is a wonderful example of Rogues amazing song writing. Soon to be "re-engineered" and re-released, you really should have this and then the "new" so you can compare them side-side. This band is awesome!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good darkwave with few glitches, September 8, 2001
This review is from: Telemetry Of A Fallen Angel (Audio CD)
I became a fan of Cruxshadows after hearing "Marylin, My Bitterness" at the local clubs. Then I got to see them live. They were *amazing.* So, after having a very nice intro to the band, I decided to pick up "Telemetry."

Overall, it's a good album. They have a very unique sound punctuated by eerie synths, drum machines, and violins. Yep, *violins.* Don't ask me why they put *that* in there, but it sounds good. Some of the songs wind up sounding kind of hokey (Jackal-Head comes to mind) but most have very strong lyrics and good melodies. "Clerestory," "Hanged Man," and "Marylin" stand out in this regard.

The only thing that detracts from this album is they could have evened out the sound levels a tad bit and brought up the mix a hair, but that's not something that most people would really notice.

Overall, a very good album. 4 out of 5. I recommend this for the car stereo, it's great for long drives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Music for Non-Goths too!, March 6, 2000

I was fortunate enough to see this band Live at Dragon-Con in Atlanta. They were awesome! I immediately bought there CD and bought there Mini-Cd for my friend back home. They really changed my view of "Goth Music!" I really enjoy the entire CD, but my favorites are: Marilyn, My Bitterness & Walk Away - lots of raw, bitter emotion; Little Monsters - dark humor; and Prometheus - powerful lyrics. Definitely not just for Goths! This music is very vibrant, strong, emotional, and charged with dynamic energy. Some songs are extremely adaptive to the Club Dance Scene. The music washes over you and gets under your skin. I play it daily and share it with all my friends. This is a real winner!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sincere, powerful, dark-tinged rock, May 27, 1999

Telemetry Of A Fallen Angel moves the listener with an effective combination of dark rock arrangements, solid guitar playing, and powerful vocals (often reminiscent of Peter Murphy of Bauhaus and solo fame). The additions of subtle electronics and violin give the music an interesting edge. Calling this excellent "gothic" music would be true, but dismissive; this disc is far more accessible.

The songs stand on their own, but they combine to form a loose "concept" album based around the "telemetries" of a Mars probe equipped with a sort of artificial intelligence. The artwork and lyrics contribute to the cohesiveness of the theme without getting in the way of each song standing on its own. (The only exception is the final track, a *surprisingly* touching song from the point of view of the satellite!) A few of the tracks could bear better editing, sometimes stretching a bit long, but that's a minor complaint when the entire album is so listenable.

The Cruxshadows' debut CD amazes, and I definitely recommend it.

The Cruxshadows is one of the most highly talented, unique, amazing bands I've ever had the pleasure of listening to! Rogue's voice captures you with the first word and, along with the music, carries you somewhere else, away from the everyday stress of life. Not only the music, but the lyrics themselves....everyone means something and you'll be surprised by which ones resonate within your soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars An essential must have cd!, January 18, 2004
This review is from: Telemetry Of A Fallen Angel (Audio CD)
I discoverd The Cruxshadows a few years ago, and heard this CD after hearing two newer releases. However, this cd is just as wonderful as all of the rest. I've been fortunate to see the group live several times, and I have never seen such an amazing live performance! The band has so much energy and the lead singer, Rogue, is all over the place. He walks through the audience, he makes eye contact with the fans as he singing - its incredibly, wonderfully intense. Rogue has an irresistable charisma that comes through in every word he sings. "Monsters", "Marilyn, My Bitterness", and "Clerestory" are some of the stand out songs on this cd, but they are all wonderful.

This is a wonderful look at early work by the band. I only gave it 4 instead of 5 stars because their work continues to get better and better. Songs such a "Marilyn, My Bitterness" and "Monsters" have an amazing blend of rhythm, melody and lyrics that sound just as beautiful the millionth time as they did the first. And do see them live if you can (unless you live on the moon, no trip to the concert is too far) - it's a religious experience.
