5.0 out of 5 stars serious rock 'n' roll, June 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Telephone Album (Audio CD)
Why these guys aren't huge rock stars I honestly don't understand. This album features one massively catchy tune after another: "Rich Cop Poor Cop" is a great, hard opener, "Feedback Queen" ranks with R.E.M.'s best ballads, "I Love Me" is smart, poppy, and funny, "My Name is Prince" is anthemic a la Superchunk, and "West of Here" is probably the most beautiful rock song ever to stray out of 4/4. The lyrics are both obscure and honest (think Steve Malkmus at his most earnest, as in "Floor Me" from Crooked Rain). Plus they put on an strong, energetic live show. Lotion are truly a great rock band.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why oh why do we not hear more from them?, May 4, 1999
This review is from: Telephone Album (Audio CD)
I love Lotion, they have a few gems on the previous albums and admittedly some not so great tracks, but the gems are so great. Makes you want to turn up your stereo and get kinda stupid singing along! They keep getting better and better. I wonder why more people aren't listening? Lotion is kinda a subdued Ben Folds Five, I hope that's a complement cause I really, really like this band!

4.0 out of 5 stars Static on the line, May 14, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Telephone Album (Audio CD)
This album doesn't really have a name. They call it the telephone album, but the name is really the picture of the phone. They should just probably call it the album named after the picture of the phone. Anyway, these guys are great. I think their last album, Nobodys Fool, is their best by far, but even this tepid Lotion is far superior to most new stuff. They, like all of alternative rock, are searching for a place to stand. These guys are just smarter than most.
