5.0 out of 5 stars The most comprehensive/user freindly telephone triage book.

3.0 out of 5 stars good for the newer office nurse. Not really for the seasoned nurse
I have been a nurse for 18 years- recently going back to work in a phone triage position, I got this book to help me catch the things I wouldn't normally think of. So far I really haven't needed it. It seems more for the newer nurse.

Very well laid out and easy to use.

When it came time to select a book to use as a guideline for triage assessment, I searched through 15 books and a couple of computerized systems. This book is the easiest to follow, without being too simplistic. The format is exceptional and key questions are clear, concise and still open-ended enough to prevent "leading" your patient. There are cross-references for each complaint, as well as home care measures for each ailment. The final points are the blank formatted pages for writing your own protocols, and tracking charts to complete QA. 5 stars hardly seem enough!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, February 7, 2001

If the armed forces uses it and bases their clinical practice guidelines on it, it's got to be good, right? It is. I use this book in nurse telephone triage for a military pediatric clinic with 2700 patients. The book is spiral bound and easy to flip pages, and the pages stay open to the topic you are using. Topics are alphabetized which saves time when searching for a certain topic. There is a very useful table of contents at the front. The home care instructions are straight forward and acceptable to our parents. It doesn't have all the topics you would need (that's what pediatricians are for), but tab topics you use most, add a drug book and a pediatrician, and you're ready to go.

I have read and used several telephone triage books for our very busy department. This is the one book our staff uses first and most. The patient complaints are laid out by system, making the protocols quick to find and easy to follow. I recommend it to anyone!

This book is exactly what every health care professional needs when performing a quick yet thorough triage assessment. When telephone triage phone time is limited and you need information FAST .... this book meets the demand for knowledge. You just can't pass this one up .... can also beneficial to those performing "face-to-face" triage assessments. The author did a GREAT job with this !!!

This review is from: Telephone Triage Protocols for Nurses (Spiral-bound)
Our busy office found this book an excellent resource. We hardly had to change the protocols much at all, only to update a few to reflect some changes in medications we use. The author has taken great pain to design a resource that saved us a great deal of time....I had started to do some of these for our office by myself BEFORE I came across this book and am embarrassed to admit the few protocols I managed to plod through were amateurish indeed compared to Ms. Briggs's work herein. Our office is a busy internal medicine practice with a heavy dose of geriatrics and we give this a "strong buy!"

This is the protocol book that has been approved by our physicians. We use every day for phone triage at a very busy college health center. The nuses find it very easy to use and the content is excellent.
I highly recommend it for any medical clinic that performs any type telephone triage.

I'm an RN who just moved into a position where I need to triage phone calls throughout the day for both adult and pediatrics. This is the first time I've triaged. It has been a very smooth transition with this resource. I definitely recommend it. In fact, I bought one for my mom's birthday because she is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is serving a mission where a part of her responsibilities is to answer phone calls of missionaries when they need medical help. With this resource, she is able to confidently point them in the right direction whether it is an emergency, they need a doctor's appointment, or give them the suggestions found in the book for things they can do at home. Fantastic resource!

5.0 out of 5 stars RN Telephone Triage, December 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am fairly new to the telephone triage world and this book is very helpful to ask the right questions and get the correct information quickly. `It has set things in order so that it directs you to other protocols as needed or to the next step in the process. At the final stage it gives helpful home instructions to encourage the patient to care for the problem without having to come to a clinic or ED unless necessary. The instructions give them things to watch for, with events that should lead them to call back or go to get assistance as needed.
I am very glad I invested in this book.
