Real Steel fighting, no drama., December 21, 2011

This is a not-so-forgotten gem which may have partially inspired the movie Real Steel. Since it was made in the mid 90s it has little in the area of story or background. You are a fighter in the future in which you control a robotic pugilist. You see through your robot's eyes as you control it fighting in the arena. The game's visuals focus on this concept, as you peer over robotic hands as you fight your opponents. The graphics were flat sprites, like most games up to that point in time, while the 3D worked similar to classic Viewmaster reels of cartoons. While not as sophisticated as the 3DS it proved effective when a metal fist smacks into the viewscreen. Due to the red monochrome screen the backgrounds were left black (i.e. no light from the red LEDs). Easily one of the best games on the system, it could be remade in full 3D for the 3DS and lose little appeal.
