5.0 out of 5 stars "stoner metal" doesn't get any better than this., April 3, 2002
By benjamin greene (pittsburgh, pa) - See all my reviews
drums and guitar with a lot of effects. no vocals (save for the guest appearance of milligram's vocalist on the first two songs of this album). no song under five minutes long, some approaching twenty. some would call this "boring," but i call it "perfect." if you're into any sort of drone-y music, buy this. you'll like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5ive (not the U.K. Band), October 14, 2001
By A Customer
5IVE
Like a swirling vortex spinning towards infinity in the far reaches of outer space, the bilateral commission known as 5IVE is perpetually stretching the outer limits of the hearing threshold, proving the sonic postulation that one may not be able to hear, but can definitely feel those sub-harmonic registers below 20Hz. Through a veritable fleet of vintage speaker cabinets and a drum kit that packs enough wallop to fell a herd of elephant, 5IVE's
Ben Carr (guitars, amps) and Charlie Harrold (skins) have achieved the kind of instrumental post-Kyuss density that sweeps across the continental divide with a sense of inherent purpose and analog fidelity, exposing "stoner rock" as trite and ordinary once and for all. Eschewing binary code for the warmth and tone of the two-inch reel, this Boston duo have published their first jeremiad via Tortuga Recordings (initial pressing on vinyl only) with subsequent transmissions (and rumored appearance from Milligram vocalist Jonah Jenkins) to follow later this year. Surrounded by an ocean of garish mixed metaphors and run-on sentences, 5IVE have turned out the backdrop for a seething fever dream, the soundtrack for the arrival of the four horsemen. Repent or burn. (Tortuga Recordings) By: J. Bennett

3.0 out of 5 stars 5ive - 'Telestic Disfracture' (Tortuga), November 19, 2004
Filled with collages of low-key guitar,5ive's debut effort showcases some decent atmospheric mostly instrumental aggressive stoner rock. Not to be confused with the British 'boy band',for THIS 5ive is a Boston-based duo comprised of guitarist Ben Carr and drummer Charlie Harrold.'Telestic...' has just six tracks, four of them run between eleven to seventeen minutes in length.I usually like long tracks,as I do here.Worth pulling out and giving a spin now and again.Able to hold my interest.Just might appeal to fans of Kyuss,Fu Manchu and Sons Of Otis.
