Fun teletubbies but annoying "real people.",
By
This review is from: Teletubbies - Big Hug! [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My toddler liked the Teletubbies scenes in this video (a scene at the beginning involving each of the Teletubbies going through a big door was a total hit with him -- and I imagine that it would be with most toddlers who are obsessed with doors). But the "real people" videos on this tape are not so great. The first one involves kids looking for rabbits and is just kind of boring. The second one involves an adult woman dressed up like a queen and putting on a show for some kids. It's painful to watch and to listen to.

My Daughter Loves Most of This Tape, But,
By A Customer
This review is from: Teletubbies - Big Hug! [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My daughter loved this tape from the time she received it as a gift at 12 months. There are many things to recommend this tape, foremost is the theme subject of "Big Hugs"! My daughter really grasped this notion of showing affection and comforting each other with hugs, and now she runs up to us and says "Big Hug!" and throws her arms around us. That alone is worth it. She also learned how to knock on a door, and say hello from the door sequences. There are a lot of positive behavior patterns to be learned from this tape. But there is this really weird sequence in the middle with a strangely stiff and unnerving woman dressed up as a queen serving tea at a tea party that sends "weird vibes" down your bones--sort of like the offbeat Alice in Wonderland stuff--the "queen" is more like the wicked witch of the west, with a very sharp, stiff look, and a very stiff cold voice, and my daughter walks away from the tape everytime this segment comes on. You have to wonder what the directors were thinking. Maybe it's a British thing, this obsession with cold formality, but it is down right disturbing. If it weren't for this chilling section, the tape would be an A+.

Very Cute,

This review is from: Teletubbies - Big Hug! [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Some of the things that make the Teletubbies so hard for an adult to sit and watch are what make the Teletubbies so enjoyable for young kids. For example, the repetition and predictability. This whole video is revolved around the words 'big hug'. The Teletubbies find a door and each one takes his turn knocking on it and going through the door only to get a big hug from the others. They dance and they play and they give big hugs. This is my child's favorite video of the Teletubbies. This video is broken up into sections that make it very easy to reach a good stoppping point in the video rather than watching the whole video. I realize there has been some controversy over Teletubbies. However, if they do teach anything, I'd think they teach love and kindness and gentleness. I use this video the same way I use most of my others, as a way to entertain my child for 15 or 20 minutes while I'm on the phone or need him to calm down. Enjoy.
