Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com essential video

On the surface, there's not a lot to Here Come the Teletubbies: Teletubby playtime in Teletubby Land is interrupted by a brief nap, a break for toast, a glimpse at some children playing in the rain, and Po's discovery of a puddle. Of course, the Teletubbies are (thankfully) about a lot more than plot devices and story lines. How else you can explain a phenomenon that has everyone from neo-psychedelic ravers to preschool children to educators enthusiastic about the same TV show? The real asset to this video (and, of the Teletubbies' output, it's the best) is the way problem solving, language, and even mishaps are presented--devised perfectly to match the mindset of a preschooler. It's hard not to relate to Po eating custard, making a mess, and then taking a snooze; or Tinky Winky trying to clean up his fellow Tubbies' mess by grabbing all their toys. Sure, there is a lot of weirdness to these four creatures: the baby's face in the sun, the computer-generated animal parade that comes out of nowhere, even the snare-drum roll and cymbal crash that accompanies the Tubbies' every move. But for all its fantasy, it's highly addictive and just what young children need. --Jason Verlinde

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, June 1, 2003

This review is from: Teletubbies:Here Come the Teletubbies [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I realize there has been some controversy with the Teletubbies.
I realize that there are some statements by the leading experts that kids under two should not watch tv. But all that aside, the Teletubbies are the videos I turn to when I want a video for my children to watch. My four year old loved them and has recently outgrown them and doesn't find them as fascinating as he did. However, my two year old still loves them. They are gentle, sweet, and fun. They dance and jump and play and hug. The videos are devided into short clips that around 10-15 minutes long and this makes it very easy to moniter how much tv they are watching. You can let them watch one or two little segments and turn it off without interrupting something right in the middle of the show.

If you like to control what your child watches and you have young children, this is a great video to get. Any of the Teletubbie videos are great.

Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent all round, November 7, 2003
By A Customer
My 13 month old is completely in love with this movie. There are several different vignettes that are easy to follow and make it less boring than earlier movies. Lots of interaction, so to speak, witht the viewer. My son loves when the teletubbies slide down their side and when they are trying to figure out 'who spilled the tubby custard?'. Entertained for the whole hour!

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the Teletubbies' best works to date., June 30, 1999

When I first saw the Teletubbies I thought they were dreadful. However my son (now 21 mths) has taught me how well designed the show really is. His favourite words are their favourite things - Ball! Hat! Bag!. This video is one of their best, avoid Dance with... as its pretty dull.
