A great item for taking a trip down memory lane,
By jasenao (Dothan, Alabama, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Television's Greatest Hits, Vol. 3: 70s & 80s (Audio CD)
The instant that I saw this cd's lineup, I had to purchase it right away. It has several of my favorite themes from shows that I watched growing up and that I still enjoy watching, such as Scooby Doo, The A-Team, Cheers, M*A*S*H, and yes, even Sesame Street. I also like many of the themes to shows that I didn't ever watch, such as Dallas, Facts of Life, Happy Days, and Greatest American Hero. All the themes are of superb quality, especially when you compare them to the first album in the Television's Greatest Hits series. There's also a Trivia Booklet that tells of some interesting facts about the shows and the themes, such as what years the show was on television, its rankings, who made the themes, how a few of the songs did on the pop charts, and much more. I'll admit that I don't like all of the songs on the cd, and there are some that should've been included but were not (where is He-Man, Transformers, Duck Tales, and Punky Brewster??!). Also, being a huge fan of The Smurfs when I was a kid, I was disappointed to hear the theme that I wasn't familiar with (the one that has singing in it). Still, it's loads of fun to drive somewhere with somebody you know and listen to the themes and to see who can guess which theme it is first. It's even better for just kicking back and playing it to take a trip back to the glory days of yesteryear. The track lineup isn't perfect, but it's good enough for a five star rating nonetheless. If you'd like to own something to 'take you back' every now and then, and especially if you're a fan of television themes, then Television's Greatest Hits, Vol. 3: 70's & 80's is a MUST BUY!!

Original Versions,
By
This review is from: Television's Greatest Hits, Vol. 3: 70s & 80s (Audio CD)
Sixty five original versions of television theme songs. It is so good to find original versions of these songs as most of these type of albums you buy contain versions sung by some unknown non original artist or played by an orchestra without the lyrics and this fact is never mentioned on the outside of the CD cover with the purchaser only finding out they have been ripped off when they get home. Rest assured this sensational album contains nothing but original versions as you heard when you watched the show on TV.
Of course some shows updated their theme songs over the years so some songs on here may be slightly different to what you remember if you tuned in a couple of seasons in. The Muppet Show and The Smurfs are two which later versions of exist but it is good to hear and own the initial series versions anyway. There is an official Muppet Show soundtrack with the later version on it if you really want it. I am yet to come across the later Smurf one however. With 65 TV shows covered you really can't go wrong with this collection. Sure there are some great 70's & 80's songs from shows not included, but other shows would have had to be left off for them to be put on here and everyone has different taste. I don't know how old this CD is, I found it in a second hand music store but hopefully if there isn't already a sequel the makers will bring one out with shows like Astro Boy, Married With Children, Chips, Dukes of Hazard, Secret Valley, Round the Twist, Fraggle Rock and other classics. Also a 90's version with shows like Seinfeld, Friends, Malcolm in the Middle, Law and Order, X-Files and so on would be great. I love listening to theme songs, I don't really know why, but the fact remains that this would be the greatest collection of theme songs on the one CD that I have ever come across. Usually you have to buy whole soundtrack albums to get just one song and the other songs on the album are nothing but fillers. This CD is a must have for any collector of theme songs, just buy it!

Going Back In Time In A Great Way,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Television's Greatest Hits, Vol. 3: 70s & 80s (Audio CD)
A friend had this CD while we went on a long driving trip. Listening to this over the many miles was a great brain teaser, and stumped us for many of them. We could see the opening credits and scenes we remembered, but had so much fun trying to remembering these. We laughed like crazy when we figured them out, laughing with a long trip down memory lane. We will certainly buy the other versions for other trips. Great to share with people who can also relate to these shows.

A Good CD,

This review is from: Television's Greatest Hits, Vol. 3: 70s & 80s (Audio CD)
Yes, many of these themes are nice to listen to... a few of them aren't, but since there're so many, it's not so bad. 2 complaints come to mind though... none of the volumes contain the "Newhart" theme (one of THE BEST TV themes EVER). Also, this volume has A Scooby Doo theme, but I was dissapointed to find it was NOT the popular "Scooby Dooby Doo, Where Are You?" theme. Anyway, it's a good CD with alot of good themes on it!

This CD has the original songs from your favorite TV shows. Not remakes of these songs like other CD's. It's a couch potato's heaven. Definitely has to be one of the most fun CD's I have! If a party is not going well, I bring this CD out and play "Name that TV show" and people have a blast!

If you watched TV during the 70's & 80's this is for you. All the original music directly from the shows themselves. The most fun you can have with a CD. Try a game of "Name That Tune" with some friends, and get the other volumes too!

70's and 80's TV Lives On,
By A Customer
This review is from: Television's Greatest Hits, Vol. 3: 70s & 80s (Audio CD)
A fine compilation of some of the greatest TV theme songs ever... "Angela" (from Taxi) as well as "Movin' on Up" are very cool songs. Hearing Welcome Back, Kotter (I have this on 45) and Barney Miller reminds me of waiting for my dad to come home from work when I was little...Dallas is a classic, if hearing it doesn't make you want to get up and dance then you should pack up your legwarmers and beady/ribbon barrettes and drop them off at your local Goodwill. Long live the Ewings! No TV fan or trivia junkie should be without this funky collection of great TV tunes!

Yeah, Baby... Far Out, Groovy... You're Gonna "Dig" This!,

Brings back the memories of yesteryear... just sit back, loosen your belt, close your eyes, and it makes you feel like you're a kid all over again! No problems... just walking to school, the homework, the after school chores, and daydreaming about the girl you're in love with that doesn't even know you exist. It's truly amazing how time flies... now I look in the mirror, my hair (what little is left) is thinning, I've got salt & pepper whiskers, and some slight wrinkles around my eyes, a sweet wife and four special children from 8 - 17. This CD truly restores the overworked soul and takes you back in time down memory lane. A remarkable healer. I highly recommend it... especially to those who like me, are thirty-something. Signing off from the beautiful Island Paradise of Maui... (Wailea) Aloha & Kudos!!!

BETTER BECAUSE IT'S ALL ORIGINAL, BUT MISSING SOME GREAT STUFF!,

This review is from: Television's Greatest Hits, Vol. 3: 70s & 80s (Audio CD)
It's hard to complain when your getting 65 themes in one collection, but this volume has some pretty lame themes on it. Fortunately, it does have many great ones included too.
The themes sound quality range from OK to excellent, but this is an improvement over the first two CD's as far as sound is concerned. Also, some of the themes don't have the ending credits themes included, which would have been nice. Another problem is that some shows had different themes throughout their run and not all are included. Over all this set is not bad, but be prepared for some disappointments. I own all 7 CD's from this set and many others, but for some reason some very cool themes aren't included. I've had to do some serious treasure hunting to find them on DVD's or VHS to transfer them to CD. If you can find this at a reasonable price then buy it. |
