4.0 out of 5 stars Fan-rific!
This CD features 65 more theme songs from old TV shows. Most of the best known shows were already featured on previous volumes, so there are many shows here that aren't that well known. So, since there are several themes here for shows I have never seen, it doesn't have as much nostalgia value for me as the older volumes have. However, unlike the earlier albums, which...

For the record the missing "Tunes" (Bar code 6 10535-68032 7) are, Stingray, Thunderbirds,Chico and the Man, Tom Jones Show, (Its not unusual) and Happening 68. Not enough to return it, but certainly somthing you should know.

I had purchased the CD for such themes as Emergency, High Chaparral, Night Gallery and Felony squad. I cannot tell after the all the years if these are originals or copies, but they are good enough to bring back memories.

If you are purchasing the CD for liner notes which tell you about the music, forget it. It does list artist for some, Author for some, but the scant notes are a one paragraph note about the show. A bit dissapointing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent, but not the greatest collection, February 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Television's Greatest Hits, Vol. 5: In Living Color (Audio CD)
I bought this at a local store a few weeks ago, after spotting one of my favorite TV themes from my childhood - The Land of The Lost. Imagine my horror when I find that the producers of this CD cut out about a few seconds from the middle of that theme (the chase scene) At that point, I'd have given this a 0 star rating, but I've had time to listen to it as a whole and my opinion has improved somewhat. The sound quality of the album is overall excellent, it's mostly the track selection that is a problem for me.

I found it odd that they used the original theme from The 6 Million Dollar Man, including the voice-over and narration, but the Bionic Woman is an instrumental with none of the sound effects I remember so well.

Many of the themes on here are ones that I have no memory of, and hearing them here makes me consider why. Many of these are "weaker" selections surrounded by some "stellar" themes like The Banana Split Song and Sigmund and the Sea Monsters. Also, I hadn't heard Hong Kong Fooey since the 70's but parts of the theme were still in my brain, it was good to hear it again complete.

So, not a bad collection, but a collection of some really good themes surrounded by more mediocore ones.

So, since there are several themes here for shows I have never seen, it doesn't have as much nostalgia value for me as the older volumes have. However, unlike the earlier albums, which featured rerecordings of most of the themes, almost all of the themes here are the original versions. (The only rerecordings here are "Family Affair", "Let's Make a Deal", "Gentle Ben", "The High Chaparral", "The Big Valley" and "Masterpiece Theatre".) Fans of old TV shows should enjoy this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars MORE FUN THEMES!, June 11, 2009
This review is from: Television's Greatest Hits, Vol. 5: In Living Color (Audio CD)
It's hard to complain when your getting 65 themes in one collection, but this volume has some disappointing themes on it. This volume appear to be all original, but I may not know every theme well enough to know the difference.

The themes sound quality range from OK to excellent, but this is an improvement over the first two CD's as far as sound is concerned. Also, some of the themes don't have the ending credits themes included, which would have been nice. Another problem is that some shows had different themes throughout their run and not all are included.

Over all this set is not bad, but be prepared for some disappointments. I own all 7 CD's from this set and many others, but for some reason some very cool themes aren't included. I've had to do some serious treasure hunting to find them on DVD's or VHS to transfer them to CD.

If you can find this at a reasonable price then buy it. Another reviewer wroet that his version onlty had 59 themes one it! I bought these when they were released and mine has all 65 themes. Buyer beware!

Most of these are re-renditions of the originals. Many people upon hearing these recordings are going to be very disappointed if they remember the original theme.

This CD deserves zero stars. OR, at least a disclaimer somewhere that these are not original pieces.

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Men from Shiloh"? Now, that's a rarity!, July 28, 2002
This review is from: Television's Greatest Hits, Vol. 5: In Living Color (Audio CD)
For those that don't know, the last year of NBC's long-running western was reworked becoming "The Men from Shiloh", new ranch owner, a few new faces, and a dynamic theme by Ennio Morricone that replaced the more familiar one by Percy Faith.

If you know that little bit of fluff, as well as remember "This is Tom Jones" or "Judd for the Defense" or "Superchicken", then this is the disc for you.

If you don't, then give it to your 40-something uncle!

3.0 out of 5 stars The CD is ok, December 3, 2001
This review is from: Television's Greatest Hits, Vol. 5: In Living Color (Audio CD)
There are some ok themes on this CD some of the themes I have heard on TVland or Nick At Nite but I would say the majority of the themes on the Cd are ones I have never heard so this is not my favorite in the Television's Greatest Hits collection, but I guess I should just stick with the Television's Greatest Hits CD's that have themes of shows that I actually grew up watching or saw on TVland or Nick at Nite.
