5.0 out of 5 stars This is a good 'un
This is a classic. Tasty guitfiddle playing and a great choice of material. You can't help but two-step around the kitchen a couple o' times when listening to this one. Redd has great crisp phrasing and can comp with the best of them. I guess thats why he's backing up Merle-duh!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not my style
He's a good player very tasty and skillful but I don't enjoy his playing, it doesnt have the fire os Albert Lee, or the fun of the Hellecasters or the madness/genius of Danny Gatton. It (for me) lacks that little extra that makes my laugh out loud (like I do when I hear Lee or Donahue). But if you like blues based honky tonk guitar played by a very good player you might...

5.0 out of 5 stars Redd Hott Tele Player, November 24, 1999
This review is from: Telewacker (Audio CD)
I had the honor of meeting Redd at a Merle concert and was privileged to give him a vintage '56 Fender pick. I became an instant fan of Redd's after hearing him play with the country legend. Telewacker is an incredible guitar album, which includes some pretty nice vocals by the guitarist. He not only plays traditional country, but also dabbles in the blues. When you buy the CD, get a load of Redd's hands. How on earth does he get that beautiful, delicate, refined sound out of those sausage-sized fingers?

4.0 out of 5 stars Two All-time Masters on Telecasater & Pedal Steel Guitar, March 22, 2005
By
This review is from: Telewacker (Audio CD)
Redd Volkaret's mastery of the telecaster puts him in a rarified company that includes only a handful of players who combine taste, touch and tone in such a way that they both define and break open the boundries of their genre. Redd's playing touches on Bakersfield country music, western swing, Django, chicken pickin', 60's rock, Roy Lanham and more. The late steel guitarist, Big Jim Murphy played fabulous, rich C6th chord solos in the Curly Chalker mold as well as great E9th country. He and Redd were truly simpatico. If you dig Country music with a touch of swing you won't regret buying this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oozes with pure tele county tone and twang, September 14, 1999

I just bought this through Amazon and it came much faster than time listed for an independent label. If you are a tele player or love when a picker gets the ultimate tele tone and uses it, you'll love this album. I really enjoy playing it over and over. I bought $100 in CDs this order and this is the one I enjoy the most.

5.0 out of 5 stars Haggard sideman proves to be excellent solo artist, June 14, 1999

Having been taught by Redd himself to play many of the songs and licks on the recor, and having been a fan of his playing since I first heard him in Robert's in Nashville; I must say that this album floors me in much the same way that Jimmy Bryant's and Clarence White's playing does. A truly excellent cd and country guitar primer!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a Kick A** CD, March 21, 2006
This review is from: Telewacker (Audio CD)
I read some of the other reviews before I submitted this. I don't see how someone could get upset over the liner notes. Redd doesn't include Danny Gatton as an influence because he didn't listen to him. As far as other reviews concerning tone and the lack of fire, well, I don't even know how to address that. Redd has one of the best tones I've heard on the tele and his note selection is what sets him apart from other pickers. Ever hear of diarrhea of the guitar? Well, you won't get that on this CD because Redd doesn't play something to just play it. This CD showcases Redd's versatility from country, to swing, to blues, to rock, it has it all. If you like good pickin', then by this CD.

Redd Volkaert is a true master of the rockabilly style, who shows his versatility with forays into surf guitar and flat out rock. Great vocals, great pedal steel guitar, who could ask for more? I saw his group play at the Richmond Folk Festival last night and had to get his album. Great Music!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best guitarists playing today, October 3, 2003
By
This review is from: Telewacker (Audio CD)
I wouldn't place much stock in the reviews by our friends from across the pond. Those who don't equate guitar mastery with blustery noodling will find Volkaert's playing incredibly inventive and his execution flawless. He sounds like a man who knows exactly what he wants to say through his instrument.

Redd Volkaert is one of the finest guitarists to ever pick up a Tele. The guy can flat-out play.
