Tell Me a Scary Story...But Not Too Scary! (Byron Preiss Book)
This is simply a great book and CD. Worth every penny and then some. My grandkids of all ages love it. I turn down the lights, put on the CD and the kids help each other read along. Wonderful story. Carl Reiner is the best. Wish more children's books came like this.

My students and I loved the first book Tell me a Scary Story, but not too scary. It was a fun Halloween read that doesn't cross the line to violence. We read it every Halloween, so I was hoping this would be more of a fun scare. Was disappointed that it was an actual accident Mr Neewollah had.

Bought this one after reading the first book : Tell Me A Scary Story...But Not Too Scary. I was asked to read this book cold to a class full of kids and they as I loved the twist ending and the cute banter in the book. I highly recomend it, The cd that came with mine makes it easier for your young reader to follow along when they want you to read it for what seems like the millionth time you can hand off to the safety and ease of the cd.

I can not believe these people who think this book is too scary for their 5 year olds, etc. My son is 3 and absolutely loves this book. Isn't Halloween suppose to be a little spooky? We have his 1st book also (Tell Me a Scary Story) and I still think it is better than this one, but my kids love listening to them both! These books are great! :)

My three grandchildren love this book/CD combo. They beg to have the CD played every time they get in the car, and then they pull out the book and read along. They are ages 5 to 7.

Come take an adventure with a young boy and his monster-creating neighbor in this fun, colorfully illustrated storybook by Carl Reiner. The first book, Tell Me a Scary Story, was a hit in 2003, and I'm sure this one will be too!
Kids will love reading the book or listening to the CD (included in the set) of the story of a young boy who finds his neighbor, a monster-creator for big movies, lying in a pool of something that looks a lot like blood. But it couldn't be . . . or could it? Did the monster mask that the young boy's neighbor had been making for him to wear this coming Halloween take on a life of its own? You'll have to read the book to find out. As children read-along with their parents, friends, or the read-along CD, Carl Reiner gives readers a way out as the story becomes scarier with pauses and questions such as: "Shall we turn the page, or is it too scary?" That's for the kids to decide on dark autumn night as they investigate the mystery of the monster-maker.

We purchased two copies of this book for our two 5-year-old grandsons for Halloween and, after all of the positive reviews, were surprised and disappointed to find that, in our opinion, it is not appropriate for their age group. Frightening artwork and a very dark story, complete with blood, do not make for an enjoyable children's book. Parents and grandparents, be very careful. There are lots of other wonderful, creative, and "scary" books available that will not give your children and grandchildren recurring nightmares.
