Review

""Whether you're a seasoned military spouse or a newbie, you should check out the latest installment of the 'Now You Tell Me!' book series: '12 Army Wives Give the Best Advice They Never Got.' It's really 13 wives, because Beth Chiarelli provides personal insights in an 18-page prologue. She lived the military life for more than 40 years before her husband, former Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Peter Chiarelli, retired about a year ago. And if you're of the Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard persuasion and think these insights are service-specific...well you should know better.  So many aspects of a military spouse's life - moving, career maintenance, deployments, all while nurturing children - are so similar across the services."" - Karen Jowers, Army Times

""After 12 years as an Army Wife I have that attitude of been there done that, what can anyone tell me now?  Well apparently a whole lot!"" - Celeste, blogger, Army Wife 101

""As an Army Wife of 5 years, even I learned something new.  I had the opportunity to stand in their {the wives} shoes and see how they handle varying situations.   I even caught my husband flipping through the book.  He said, ""It made me look at things I don't normally think about from the Soldier's perspective.""  So, whether you are Soldier, new to being an Army Wife or have been an Army Wife for some time, I recommend getting the book.  You'll definitely bond with the personal stories shared "" -Jenn, Founder  of the Army Wives Club blog

""This book is a great collection of stories from real Army Wives. From their experiences marrying a soldier to deployments to helping children through the Military life. There is a lot of great advice in this book from those who have been through all sorts of challenges with the Army. Each of the wives have a different background and different experience as an Army wife. I liked hearing the different perspectives."" - Julie, blogger,  Army Wife Crazy Life

"" After reading the book there is so much I learned that I did not know."" - Jen Lyon, blogger, Lyon Party of 4

""Now you tell me!  12 Army Wives Give The Best Advice They Never Got is like sitting down with a group of women who have been through it all and having them share their advice and knowledge.  When I sat down to read this book, I finished it in a single day.  I could not put it down!  I could identify with each of the women in one aspect of their lives or another.  It is amazing that even though different decades and wars so many military spouses can share the same experiences.  I am so glad I had the chance to read this book, I only wish it would have been written years ago!"" - Ramblings of a Caffeinated Army Wife Blog

One of the hardest parts about being an Army wife is not knowing how to handle what comes at you out of the blue. This books gives a look into how several wives handled situations, and it was really honest advice. You could tell they were talking about what they really thought and what they did. Great book!!

I bought this book for my daughter, a newlywed Army wife. Although she had many Army-brat friends while growing up, there is nothing like first-hand stories from people who have lived military life. I felt the narrators' perspective would improve my own understanding of my daughter's experience as well, so I read it first.

While the book lacks a clear introduction and is not written particularly well (the first-person accounts could have been edited a bit to improve flow, but I think the authors chose to preserve the storytellers' voices rather than go for perfect grammar and sentence structure), it really covers the subject. The only other flaw is that the photos of the women at the beginning of each chapter are small and dark--I think this could be improved in future printings.

There is conflicting advice sometimes ("Unpack the master bedroom first." "Unpack the kitchen first.") but the women, who come from all levels of Army rank, including a couple who served along with their husbands, offer invaluable observations on what is really important, what is not, and the reality of frequent moves and deployments, acronyms and procedures. It's honest and full of information that would probably take years to glean on one's own.

The appendices are vital, as well. They include information on rank, how to help military families, and more. Just that section would make a great pamphlet to hand out to civilians!

Well worth it. Everyone who is marrying into a military situation should read this book.

This book not only talks about "real" life but it gives years of experience and advice. It shows all different ranks, backgrounds and families. It takes you on a journey that is useful in military life but civilian life as well. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a thoughtful gift for a friend or family member. I bought 3 copies one for myself and two for dear friends who have just begun their adventure in the military community.

I have read many books pertaining to Army life, even watched the show which is highly over dramatized -- this book is the real deal with real Army wives telling real stories! They give you a glimpse into the truth with great advice!

Even though we are a Navy family, the information offered spans across the services. Any military spouse can gleen useful information from this book. Offered in an easy to read format, from the enlisted to officer wives, all weigh in on common challenges faced in today's military families.

Definitely could be a great gift for a new military spouse. Or, have your civilian friend give it a read to try to understand the difficulties military families deal with in regards to separations and deployments.

Sure wish media material such as this had been available when I started my journey through the military lifestyle in the 1980's!

A must for military wives, not only the army but all. One does not know how difficult the role of military wife is until you read the stories. I commend the letter writers for sharing their experiences with others and I commend the authors for letting the story tellers feeling shine through in each story without changing the basic interview. Congratulations!

Finally a book that offers real advice on real issues. Sometimes you just don't know what to even ask about to be prepared but this book points out things you will have to deal with and offers honest answers. I think this would be a good book for all military families and friends of familes. I sure wish I would of had it years ago as a new Army wife.
