My Review - I am thoroughly enjoying this series! The writing is great and the story is meaningful. Not your typical wham bam thank you ma'am! It is refreshing to read a naughty book that has a great tale and steamy scenes at the end. I have to go pick up the rest of the books ASAP!
We meet James, Mike's Place psychologist, while he is in session with Matt, a resident at Mike's Place. The way James interacted with Matt drew me in and I couldn't put it down. You could feel that James truly cares for his patients and wants to do what's best for them. As James is leaving to head to his 1NS date that Madame Eve arranged, he comes across Logan (Always a Marine 2) and he lets Logan know that he wants to arrange a basketball game with Matt to help Matt out. Logan teases James about his date for the evening, which made me laugh because Logan obviously was changed by his own 1NS.
Lauren is an actress who wanted an experience with someone who wasn't out for themselves or using her for career movement. To me, Lauren is a person that wanted to be seen for more than her career but couldn't find on her own. Madame Eve to the rescue though. I don't think Lauren was prepared for James though and she sees just how real James is.
James receives an emergency call regarding one of his patients. It turns out that patient is Matt and James needs to head to where Matt is. Lauren insists on showing him the best way to get there. While James is speaking with the Police and Damon (more on him later), Lauren sees Matt sitting on the curb and decides to go talk to him because she saw that he was lonely. Lauren takes Matt by surprise, but she strikes up a conversation with Matt.Read more ›
I liked the maturity and sophistication of James and Lauren. They had great chemistry – it was nice to see them connect.
I’m really looking forward to Matt’s story. His pain and sadness left me unsettled and I’m squirming in anticipation for his happy ending.
Lauren Kincaid certainly didn't need 1Night Stand's services to get a date but she's tired of dating men who are only interested in how she could help further their careers. She wants a date with a real man - one whose interests lie in getting to know her much better rather than anything Hollywood related. She gets that in spades when she meets James. He knows exactly who she is and obviously follows her career but he's far more interested in her as a person which is a refreshing change for her.
James and Lauren hit it off right away and the bluntness and flirting throughout their conversation prove to make their dinner an interesting experience. There's no doubt that the evening will end in a display of mutually satisfying sexual fireworks but as they talk they discover a camaraderie they rarely experience with anyone of the opposite sex. Unfortunately just as it's time for the evening to wind down and them to either go their separate ways or find a comfortable bed he receives a phone call. One of his patients got into a spot of trouble at a local pub and he needs to go to him. What he doesn't expect is for Lauren to volunteer to go with him and actually want to help him with his patient.Read more ›
James Westwood, a psychologist helping to treat his Marine buddies in adjusting to life after battle, signs up for the 1Night Stand service along with the rest of his unit. When he realizes his date is none other than Lauren Kincaid, the beautiful actress he's had a secret crush on for years, he doesn't think the night could get much better. After potential tragedy strikes, however, it most certainly does.
Lauren is looking for just one night with a real man - no ulterior motives, no leg up in business - just a real connection to another human being. She doesn't realize how real those connections can be. When their date is interrupted by the breakdown of James patient/Marine buddy, she surprises James, and herself, by injecting herself in the situation and helping in a way very few could.
As always, Ms. Long's writing is spectacular. Her descriptions and uses of phrase are sometimes unexpected, but always vivid and paint a perfect picture. The connection between her subjects is real and perfectly believable, and I am never disappointed in her amazing love scenes - top notch!
My only request - I would like the website or email address where I can sign up for Madame Eve's 1Night Stand, because I have yet to read a tale in the series that is not a home run - particularly those written by Heather Long!

Oh yum! I love the slow build up of the whole novella. It allows us to read more about the characters' personalities, which I really appreciate. Read morePublished on July 1, 2012 by Bookish Michelle
I hate to say it but I did not like this novella at all. In fact it was my least favorite in the Always a Marine series. It was just so slow. Read morePublished on June 27, 2012 by Ramblings From This Chick Blog
