4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
I studied Spanish in school about 20 years ago, and truthfully I wasn't that good then. So while I wasn't a complete beginner....I was pretty close.

I was quite pleased with this software, but I agree that it is not that helpful for true beginners. It has a wide variety of learning activities and contains a surprising amount of material. It is much, much better than the overpriced and overhyped Rosetta Stone series, though this is still not cheap. However, be aware it is for Castilian Spanish, that is, as it is spoken in Spain, not Latin America; the accent is rather different and some vocabulary differs, too.

Of course, learning a language with software is probably not the best way to do it. I think for the same investment of time I have learned a great deal more with audio CDs and workbooks - I, at least, do truly need the workbook as well as the CD to cement the learning. The one advantage of Tell Me More Spanish is that it has a lot of workbook-type exercises built in.

The first thing I noticed when I started with this application is that it does really feel like they've thrown you in the deep end....but the immersion classes I've taken when studying other languages felt the same way in the beginning. I know I got a lot more out of them then the style of lessons where you learn with a combination of English and the language you're learning.

If you stick with the exercises....even ask the program to show you the answers till you get the hang of what they're looking for....I think you'll find that you'll learn more than you thought possible.

4.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommend, August 15, 2006

I bought this software after reading several reviews on the web and highly recommend it. Indeed, I had tried Rosetta Stone and other methods before, and this software is much better. I really liked the fact that there were so many different exercises. When I started, the translation icon was really useful, as well as the other icon which highlights words/sentences so you can listen to them, get the translation, and even pronounce them. I was very frustrated with other software as I could not get the translation. We created one account for each family member and are now all in the process of learning Spanish

5.0 out of 5 stars Great customer service, October 5, 2006

This review is from: Tell Me More Spanish Version 6 (CD-ROM)
I bought this software on Amazon and was curious after I read some of the reviews here, so I decided to call Auralog and ask them questions. They were on the phone with me for more than 45 minutes, answering all my questions. They sent me a Quick Start Guide that is very helpful at the beginning. For instance, it shows that at the beginning, in the dialogue activity, there are no right or wrong answers it is a matter of looking at the translations and hearing the Spanish sounds, to get familiar with Spanish. After that, other activities will reuse these words to reinforce the learning, and then you can actually speak these using the microphone they provide. They also have technical support available, I did not need it as my Spanish course is working great on my PC. I really appreciated their time to walk me through the software. I am very happy about my purchase as I feel I am progressing more and more every day, which is great as I never learnt Spanish before. The software itself is very nicely designed and has a lot of different activities, making it very fun to learn, even at my age.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent software, June 8, 2005
This review is from: Tell Me More Spanish Version 6 (CD-ROM)
I think this software is excellent, the speech recognition is great as it truly helped me improve my pronunciation. I never got bored learning with it. The best part is that, using this software, I was able to finally speak Spanish when I went on vacation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good, January 31, 2006

I bought the software after a friend, who happens to be a Spanish teacher, recommended it to me. I had never studied Spanish before but really needed to as my company was relocating me. I found the software very effective, well designed...I also liked the fact that all 3 levels came in the same package for an affordable price, as most other companies only offer a Beginner package, or several packages that will cost much more than this one. Overall, if you really want to learn Spanish, and not only several words or sentences, it is really the way to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked great for me, April 25, 2006

This review is from: Tell Me More Spanish Version 6 (CD-ROM)
I bought this software about 2 months ago and I feel much more confident now speaking Spanish.

I followed the recommendation of a friend, and I was impressed by all the content this package has, 3 different levels, grammar,...

I had some questions on how to start the program as I was beginner and was able to call their company. They told me which mode I should start with, explained me that the software is based on immersion, so it is normal you listen right away to Spanish words or sentences...

Once I picked that up and used the translation icon, I was on my way to start talking Spanish at work. The speech recognition gave me more confidence as I was able to repeat words and sentences on my own before.

My daughter is using it as well for school and her grades went up in Spanish.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners, April 18, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tell Me More Spanish Version 6 (CD-ROM)
The manufacture indicates they have over 5 million satisfied users-but I'm not one of them. I wonder if they count all who buy the software but don't return it as satisfied, especially since they don't allow returns! It is certainly a way to get their numbers up! BEWARE! YOU CANNOT RETURN THIS SOFTWARE IF YOU DON"T LIKE IT! This is expensive software but I read a review that rated this software very high, so I took a chance. BIG MISTAKE. I find the software virtually useless. Maybe it is more useful to a more advanced individual but for someone just beginning Spanish, like me, it was a complete waste of time and money. I learned more straight out of a $20 phrase book. The interface is extremely confusing and is a tremendous hindrance to finding whatever small utility the program may have. I won't say the program is poorly designed because to use the word "design" could imply someone gave it some thought! The program is supposed to have three learning modes, but I could not figure out how to engage the different modes or if I did engage them, I couldn't tell the difference. Additionally, the program suffers from a tremendous lack of logic and organization. Maybe others will find this software more useful than I, but be careful, there are NO RETURNS! It did come with a set of headphones, but I suspect I could have gotten a much better set for the $195 I paid for these.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terribly Disappointed, September 27, 2006
This review is from: Tell Me More Spanish Version 6 (CD-ROM)
I bought this based on the comments I seen here and I guess I shouldve listened to the few who didnt like it, because im one of them. First off, the flash interface is very slow. I spend more time looking at that little loading clock than anything else. Sometimes when it locks up and I close the program, it makes everything on my PC delayed. This only happens when the flash program in TMMS locks up. I started with the beginners CD, which is far from that. I have all 3 Pimsleur programs (great stuff) so I have a grasp on Spanish, and I still didnt know half the words in the beginners CD. And nothing actually teaches them to you. It throws words at you without telling you what they mean so you constantly have to hit the translate target symbol to check, and wait for it to load each time. How frustrating! This is a terrible way to try and memorize anything. Next, it doesnt tell you whether you are right or wrong. You have to go back to the welcome page to see the % you got right of the whole lesson. So theres no way to tell which particular ones you got wrong in each lesson. I went into options and checked "make sound for right/wrong answer" but theres no sound for right/wrong so I dont yet know its use. In the dialogue mode it shows you a pic, asks a question, then you pick the answer. No matter what I pick it just highlights green and moves to the next question. Leaving you to scratch your head whether you got it right or not. To test it, one question was "Do you have long hair?" and it shows a girl with very long hair. I answered "No, my hair is very short." It highlights green and goes to the next question. What the???? At least highlight in red or something, give me a clue here! Then one section actually expects you to conjugate and write these words without even knowing what they mean and without any prior lessons on the different ways to spell them. The manual that comes with it is horrible, it only explains the install, which really needs no explaining because it was easy but I understand it needs to be in there, and the 3 modes of learning. Thats it. The in-program help is fairly nice, but once again, waiting for it to load and the slowness makes it something you dont care to use. My PC is far past the reccomended requirements to run this program and yet it runs like a turtle. This program teaches very little, if anything. I wish I had saved my money.

5.0 out of 5 stars TeLL Me More, January 23, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Tell Me More Spanish Version 6 (CD-ROM)
Tell Me More is a great product for language learning. It teaches the way you learned your language, speaking then doing the grammar. It teaches you by looking at things, doing workbook exercises for those workaholics out there, and you actually SPEAK the language. You can't expect to be able to speak the language fluently without, well, SPEAKING IT!!!!! T.M.M covers the speaking and listening part of the language really well. I know that some people are like "This is horrible for beginners... bla bla bla". This used to be a problem but know they have a program with a COMPLETE BEGINERS level. There's your promblem solved. Although I used Tell Me More Italian, I guarentee this software will work the same way. It's so worth it!
