When I heard the dreaded words-"YOU HAVE DIABETES"-it rocked my world. I was so frightened. I never expected it,I was floored. I found myself in a position where I didn't know what to eat. I knew NOTHING about diabetes. First thing I did was look for books on Amazon so I could educate myself as soon as possible. I never knew this was such a complex illness. This book helped me tremendously to understand how to eat. I was used to Weight Watchers and counting points but knew nothing about carbs and sugars and all the other things on the labels. I knew Amazon would have the right book for me. Thank you again for your help in getting me on the right trail to healthy eating. Although I have a difficult road ahead of me this book is the first step to understand what path to take.

I have diabetes all over in my family, so I was NOT surprised when my doc decided to assume I had gestational diabetes right from the start of my pregnancy.
However, both my mom and her dad don't take good care of themselves, so I didn't have any good role models for what I should be eating. I knew what NOT to eat...but not what I should focus on instead. The nurse that spoke with me (NOT a nutritionist) was way off in her diet recommendations, this book helped me eat again! I sat and read it in just a few days, it has great advice and was easy to understand. I don't generally use it as a reference, but I'm glad I read it early on.

Few days ago, my doctor told me I had diabetes and to watch what I eat. On my way home I decided to stop by at the bookstore to see if they had some type of information to provide more light on the subject. Others could have diabetes, but not me. I was in shock! On the shelf there was Elaine Magee's book. I bought it. Within 2 days I read it all. Found so many answers in it. Answers I could understand. Recipes I could use. Very helpful informations.

Having been diagnosed with diabetes recently at a local clinic but unable to meet with a dietitian, I was hoping this book would help guide me in creating a diet/meal plan for myself. It had a lot of good information and tips that will definitely be helpful, but I was hoping for more. I was hoping it would guide me through the process of designing a customized plan. It wasn't at all like this. On top of that, it was extremely repetitive. Good, just not what I was expecting from the title and product description.

Helpful if you'll let it be...,
By Leah Johnson (Memphis, Tennessee) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tell Me What to Eat If I Have Diabetes (Kindle Edition)
My mother was diagnosed with diabetes about fifteen years ago. When I was diagnosed recently, I started with a few advantages over most. I was prepared to accept that I had a disease that I knew was coming. I knew what diabetes was, what it meant, and the basics of how to deal with it. Unfortunately, my mother never really tried to control her diabetes. Rather than watching her diet, she chose to let it progress to the point where she has to take medicine to control it. I can't turn to her for advice on my eating habits. Can I have a milkshake with lunch? How does fruit compare to candy? Does this mean no more morning hot chocolate?! I was about ready to just declare myself 100% sugar free and get it over with. But then a friend showed me this book. I now know that with my exercise routine and some caution, I can have that milkshake. Fruit is better but I can't eat a ten-gallon bucket's worth. A small bit of morning hot chocolate will actually help me feel better (avoiding hypoglycemia). So glad I bought this book.

I was diagnosed with diabetes almost a year ago and I've been trying to figure out what I can and can't eat ever since. I've read several books, magazines and web sites and I've found this book has given me the most useful information. I just haven't figured out the advantages to buckwheat yet.

This is a very good book for someone like me who is pre-diabetic. I haven't read the book all the way throught yet, that can be overwhelming, but I look at different sections as I find more questions that I want answered. So far, I am very pleased with this book and I highly recommend it for anyone who is diabetic or pre-diabetic.

I knew nothing about type 2 diabetes when I was diagnoised with it 3 weeks ago. I was sent home with very little information from my doctor other than the damage it can cause to my body and health. I was scared to eat anything because I didn't know what to eat. I got on Amazon.com and ordered 4 books. Of the 4 books I ordered, this book was extremely helpful. I am starting to see my glucose levels come down. And feeling a little more relaxed. I highly recommend this book.
