This book is more like a workbook...highlighting areas, writing in the margins. It's like having a photo marketing class, without any B.S. To the point with the information, and also some simple quiz type areas that makes the reader think about where s/he is at, and wheres/ he wants to go in commercial photography.

I agree, this book is definitely a "Must Read" for photographers who:
-- are wanting to fine tune their brand and marketing efforts
-- are thinking about making the leap into freelancing
-- are starting out and have a desire to understand some of the business side of photography

I discovered Leslie not long ago after listening to a portfolio review with a photographer at pdnonline. Since then I visit her blog as much as I can and have signed up for her email newsletters. She is thoughtful and doesn't beat around the bush.

Tell the World You Don't Suck is chock full of practical tools and advice. It includes a few case studies, steps to identify one's brand, advice on editing, budgets for marketing, advice on portfolios (online and print), working with designers, and a healthy dose of hand-holding and counseling.

As a former art director for magazines and newspapers and now an independent graphic designer, it was so nice to hear such great support for designers. Thank you Leslie.

In fact, while Tell the World You Don't Suck is geared more for photographers, it is not just for photographers. Any creative individual looking to refine or learn about what it means to brand, market and be successful in business will benefit.

This book is a great read. Her analogies really make you see the big picture about marketing yourself as a photographer in this crazy commercial industry. After reading this book, I have a deeper perspective on how to market myself successfully. Thanks

Highly recommend to new and veteran creatives, especially photographers. Leslie tells it like it is, blunt, but with humor. She's quick and to the point, and the entire book is an excellent read both from information and the author's sense of humor. Every creative's library needs this book!
